LEGO Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

In the pilot episode of Brickology, LegoLee329 breaks down the sets based off Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace and the history that surrounds them.

And Good Morning, good afternoon diewherever whenever you're listening. Thank you so much for making me a partof your day. My name is liparm. You might know me as Legolee or Legolee, three t nine from Youtube: Instagram Patreron, twitter, you name it andtoday is a very special day. Why you may ask well today, is the first everepisode the inception, the beginning, the birth, the inaugural episode, thepilot, whatever analogy, whatever fancy word for. First, you want to use. Thisis the first ever episode of my original Lego podcast that I have named Briology. Yes, you heard that correctlybrick ology. This has been a brainchild of mind for a very long time for a fewmonths, and I have been messing around with this trying to figure out exactlyhow I wanted to make this podcast, and I didn't know when to make it how tomake it. I am very inexperienced in the whole podcast game now I have beenmaking youtwo videos for more than a decade, so I think I'm pretty EXPERIENCYiu know talking on camera, but just recording my voice, not quite asexperienced here. So if this just downright sucks, I apologize, butforgive me, be patient with me, because it's my first full time, podcastrecording. I have made a couple of random student projects. I took acouple audio production classes in college. I have been featured on otherpeople's podcasts a few times and I even ran my own radio show. But thissort of thing is pretty new to me and there's going to be some growing pains. So I just ask you to please be patient. I promise I will get better and I wantto make this the best possible podcast I can now before we get started withwhat I'm going to do today, I'm going to tell you a little bit just aboutthis podcast. You know kind of what this podcast is going to be. What brickOlogy is all about the origins, the idea and the told the wholal total hsee Im areay messing up, like I said, new t the whole podcast game with thethe whole goal for brick Ology as a podcast. Now brick alogy the idea firstformed in my head. When I was actually listening to a different PODCAST, I wasdriving to go see my brother and Jacksonville. Florida was a seven hourlong drive, so you know in typical Lon dry fashion, you're trying to findthings to listen to so I asked my friends at instagram. What should Ilisten to? One of my friends suggested. I listened to a podcast called Ologies,so, yes, I did kind of rip off the name of Ologies with brick Ology, but it'snot like a word that this person owns or anything it's a generic term, and Icreated the term brick ology here. So essentially I listen to this podcastOlogie oologies is hosted by a woman named Ali Ward and Ali. What she doeseach week is she interviews somebody who's, a different kind of Ologists, soshe might interview somebody who's, a zoologist, a zoologist studies, shackeranimals, a paleontologist. You probably heard that term before, like AllanGrant in Jurassic Park, he is a paleotologist paleotologist. Theystudid dinosaurs and fossils. So she interviews somebody each week, who's adifferent ologist and she kind of cracks down on them and tries to learnas much as humanly possible about their field of study, and she has some thatare, you know pretty basic categories like zoology or biology, and then shehas some where somebody it's like a scorpionologist. They study Scorpyandsomething super specific and basic, and those are the most interesting episodesbecause you learn about something...

...really specific, and I want to do thatfor Lego and I am being kind of self righteous here. You know I'm normallyI'm not a guy who likes to brag or boast about myself, but I think I'mworthy of giving myself this distinction, I'm going to calm myselfhere, an unofficial. Obviously this is not a real term but unofficially givingmyself the unofficial title of a brick ologist and the whole tag line for thispodcast is going to be the study of small plastic bricks. You know I'mbeing real cheeky and funny with that there. Essentially I'm calling myself aLego expert because look my name online. My Youtube, chail name for over adecade is Lego Lee. You know it just so happens that my name is len and beginswith he le like Lego does, but I have made the word Lego and my name Lee likeone and the same like they are synonymous like when people see meTheye, like Oh, hey, it's Lego, Lee people. Don't really call me Lee it'sLego Lee right, so I think the fact that Ih've been collecting Lego forpretty much as long as I remember I have over. I think two thousand setsaccorded to my brick set account and the fact that my name and Lego arepretty much two peas in a pod together. I think that I am worthy of givingmyself the distinction of a brick ologist. Now look even I a self appointed Lego expert. Idon't know everything there is to know about Lego, I'm sure I'm going tomisspoke speak in these videos. Miss Foksy, look, I'm already mispeakingalready, I'm sure I' going to make mistakes, and I need to do research. Idid a ton of research for today's first episode. I will do even more researchfor future episodes if this continues be patient with me and I'm going tobring in. Hopefully, if this podcast, you know kind of catches on, I willbring in expert to. There are plenty of Lego fans, there's probably a LEGOFAout there. That knows way more about like a Ninjago, for example, than me orsomeone who knows more about Lego, Legendsachima or minecraft, or you nameit whatever friends, whatever theme, essentially, though, let's get to kindof explaining what this is the way that Aley each week explains a differentstudy of something I woant to do that, but make it very specific to Lego. Soinstead of explaining a different, you know like theme like different science, like Aly,doesn't Hert podcast, I'm going to kind of break down and explain a differentlego theme or subthine with he? TAMG is too big each week. So, for example, there might be an episode where ID break down the history of Lego, minkraft and what mindcraft means to Lego and how the theme started and whyit's been popular and successful. Some of the best sets just highlight allwhat the stuff that's important about. Lego micraft, I'm going to do that eachweek and some themes are huge. There's a theme like Lego City, where you knowI can't do all of Lego city in an hour, long or however long these podcasts onthe bink. That would be, you know way too crammed way too quick. So, insteadof doing you know, you know one broad city, episodei'll square. In a littlebit and I'll choose like Lego city fire, a subthing that I could break down anepisode and each week I want to break down, uncover the history. Theimportance of this theme to Lego as a whole as a brand kind of how it's donefinancially and all of that fun stuff, and I figured what better way to start off this brickology podcast, then, by talking about Lego, Star Wars, no obviously Lego StarWars, there's like seven hundred Lego Star war sets. I cannot do that in oneepisode. I don't think I could do it in ten episodes, so we're really narringit down it like o Star Wars here and we're going to go back to the beginning. The first Lego Star War sets and the...

...first star wars, film chronologicallyat least not release date and you've, probably caught on by now, andobviously it's probably in the title of this episode. The first ever episode ofBrick Ology here is going to be about Star Wars, episode, one, the PhantomMinic, so Lego, Star Wars, episode on the Fanto Menance. You might think thatI would just simply sit here and be like yeah. The hets came on on Housand, nine hundred and ninety nine, and these are all the sets, but no no. No, thatis not the goal of brickology. I want to dive deep into the history, the Lore,if you will of Star Wars, episode one toys, Star Wars, toys Lego as a brand. There's a lot to cover here, and I think the important place to start iswith Star Wars: Toys just in general, now they're going to be a couple ofsources that I'm going to be using throughout this episode and I'm sureI'm going to reuse them in future episodes. The first one, of course, isbrick adcom, I'm pretty sure. If you're a big Lego Fan, you know what bricksetis. If you aren't Elexplaine to you very quickly, it's like a big databasefor Lego. It's like Imdbis, the Internet movie dated base, that'sessentially IMDB for Lego, and you can catalog your collection of Lego sets. You know list. What sets you want review Lego sets it's a huge awesomewebsite. I love brickset and Breksid. Has All the information you need toknow about Lego sets, so I went on there to find all of the Phantom minucsLego sets. I could so. Thank you to brickset. Also, a big source on musicgis two episodes of a particular TV show. There is a short kind of mini series.Daku series on Netflix called the toys that made us there's. I think twelveepisodes and the toys that made us actually kind of does a similar thingthat what I'm doing they kind of you know explain the history of a differenttoy and, like an hour, long documentary style episode, so they have an episodefor my little pony transformers power, Rangers Teenagean, interturtles Gi, Jowhatever you name it and, of course, obviously the toys that made us has anepisode about Lego and they also have an episode Abelt, of course, Star Wars, toys. So I got a lot of the information that I will be sharing in this episodeand I'm sure a bunch of future episodes of this show. From that show. I highlyrecommend you check out that show on Netflix. If you can now, let's talkabout Star Wars, toys because Star Wars, toys have such an interesting history,I mean it seems so normal to have tons of star wars, toys now and you wouldn'treally think about them. Being this big significant thing in the history of thetoy industry, but they really are now star wars. Toys first came out N, onethousand nine hundred and seventy seven. Seventy eight now, of course, that'sthe year that the original star wars, film came out, came out, may twentyfifth Thosa nine hundred and seventy seven in Star Wars. Was this movie? It's a weird movie with a small budget made by a filmmaker who hadn't reallybroken into Hollywood, and George Lucas and George Lucas had this big film? Noone really knew what this was going to be. People thought it was stupid. Someof the actors even thought it was stupid, like Star Wars, was kind ofwritten off before the movie even came out, which is so ironic to think aboutnow, because of how huge star wars is as a property, but back in the day starwars was not considered to be this big thing: people weren't thinking this wasgoing to be some crazy, huge action franchise and I think Star Wars is oneof the you know. The few films like that and jaws are one of the few moviesfin the seventies that you look back on that kind of Berthd, the bigblockbuster movie series and, I think, Star Wars. A lot of you know popularseries. Today. Oh a lot to star wars, but that's not really what we'retalking about in this podcast e. We are talking about in Star Wars, toys andstar wars, toys kind of like how the...

...movie was not considered to be this. You know attractive property, the Star wors toys were wridden off. Like GeorgeLucas went to all of the big wig toy companies. The mattels Bandis has browsof the world and was like hey you going to make some toys off of my weird moviecoming out here, and they were like. No, they know thought it was stupid. Theydidn't think it was good and they didn't bite. No one did. None of thesebig companies did so, of course, a small toy company called kinner basedon of Cincinnati Ohio. They were the ones that took a chance. They took achance on making star wars toys, but because of all this stuff, all theproblems they had with the production of the toy lines. The toys were notreleased. Ynonymous with the movie you know today, we have these big forceFriday, launch events for Star Wars, toys when they release all the toys atmidnight on a Friday, and it's usually like two or three months before themovie comes out. That is not what happened with the original star warsfilm and actually took like a year for these toys to get out there, which iskind of odd to think about because the movie, of course the movie is like oneof the highest grossing movies of all time and made like seven hundredseventy five million dollars in one thousand nine hundred and seventy sevenadjusted for inflation. That's like almost three billion dollars orsomething absurd, like this movie, of course, just made boat loads of money,it's ridiculously popular and, of course, there's tons of cool ships andnew figures and characters in the movie. So they're going to be tons of cooltoys, but the toys. You know what they' they're, not even out, but when they docome out. Finally, after the movie is released, it's an absolute Bahanza. It's a frenzy to get star wars, toys, the action figures, weren't, evenaccurate. Some of them were the complete wrong color. I mean there's awhole plethera of issues with these toys. They're very simple, but itdoesn't matter star. Wars is just that popular kids, adults. You know, fansaround the world alike, are freaking out about star wars, toys and Star Wars.Toys quickly become the most popular toy brand in the world I mean it's themost popular movie series in the world, so it's not too surprising, but it'skind of crazy that kinner this small toy company, all of a sudden has thisinsanely huge toy property with them and star wars, toys they continued theirpopularity and success going into the ight one Thousan ninded Ghy is when theempire strikes back, came out and of rcone thousand nine hundred, and eightythree is when the original trilogy of Films Completed With Return, the Jedaso star wars, toys, they're, huge they're, big and they're being basedoff of these original Star Wars, films, N in one thousand nine hundred andeighty three George Lucas completes the original trilogy. Concludes the storyof Luke Kywalker Hon Solo, Darth, Vader, Princess Lea, you name it eleast. Youknow he did for a bit. We thought at least George Lucas completed. Hisstory is what I'm saying, and then there was no new star wars and StarWars. Toys kind of went into this weird dark ages like. Obviously this iskinner's biggest toy property by a mile, so they're going to keep making starwar stuff, but there really isn't any star war stuff. Now there are plenty ofrandom properties to come out from Star Wars. Those the strange like ewalkfilms and there's a lot of books like in comic books, the Expanded Universewhich is now known as legends because Disney when they bought Lucas film, just erased all of that from Star Wars, Canon it's no longer canodical. They had to make stuff based off of allo this and remake. You know: Toys from the original childre of films and StarWars. Toys took a turn for the worst...

FRM, one thousand, nine hundred andeighty three until the mid, the lates star wars, toys just weren't what theyuse to beat because people didn't really care. People didn't care enoughabout the books or these weird side stories. I mean you know Hardcore RealStar Wars nerds at the time, I'm sure they cared, but I don't think a kid isgoing to go to a toys. arossing like Oh look at the shadows of the Empire.Action figure like that didn't happen like that's not what happened and StarWars, toys the sales m they went down, they went down baby like it was. It wasnot looking too hot for kinner and kinner. They had a great run. Theyreally got lightning it a bottle with star wars, toys and signing that dealwith Lucas, but I think their good fortune Kido run out and they ended upselling the company to a big wig that originally passed on Star Wars: Toys inHasbro. So now it's the late s and Hasbro owns the rights to Star Wars:Toys they're, probably wonderingle. What the heck are you talking about? You Oo mentioned Lego in ten minutes. Trust me I'm getting there because weare coming up on the late S and George Lucas announces for the first time in adecade and a half there's going to be a new star wars movie, that's right, baby,Star Wars episode, one, the Phantom minice is on the horizon, and this isthe Prequel to the og star, warst films, the original Star Wars trilogy. This isit we are getting a new star wars movie, and because of that I mean Hasbro's freaking out man.Hasbros got this new property and star wars, toys and what are they going todo when they know that they have this property and they have this moviecoming out. Of course, they are going to make a lot of star wars, toys, sothe ampount of money that has bro Pumps into making star wars. Toys is crazyand with the release of the Phantom minus, they make a lot. I mean a lot ofStar Wars: Toys. It is bananza it's a frenzy yet again, but it's not just theaction figures and play sets. We got things like micro machines coming out, nerve guns are getting in on the Star Wars: Toy Game. There's those weirdlike Bottle Cup toppers at movie theaters are selling happy meal toys, there's a lot of stuff going on for Star Wars, products here and one of thenew products that came out for star wars in one housand, nine hundred andninety nine, of course is say it with me. Lego, Lego, firely jumps on the starwars band wagon. They are on the Star Wars train for the first time ever, andthis is kind of weird. This is significant for Lego Lego, as a companyreally didn't want to do this sort of thing. If you watch that toy that madeus episode about Lego, you would know that Lego, one is very anti war, Lego, hates war. They actually made their original castle sets yellow instead ofgray, because they didn't want a ton of gray pieces out there for people tomake like custom tanks and war machines at a lego pieces. Obviously, thatchange in the future, but Lego is super anti war and Lego at this pointin timeis almost against making any form of license product again Iraq to thinkabout now because license products, rule Lego as an industry, but back inthe S Legoas, bread and butter was original themes, stuff, like classicLego Space Castle, Westerns Ninjas underwater stuff, you name it classicLego, stuff, city, stuff in house...

...themes, original properties that Legocreated themselves. That is what Lego stood for. That's what Lego wanted toproduce and star wars, of course, is thebiggest property in the world so for Lego to make something one that has thename war in it like. It literally has the word war in it, even though it'syou know laser swords, light, savers and blasters, it's not real weapons,it's still war and it's you know heavily influenced by real life. worslike war, wark too, it's very significant for Lego to youknow, quote unquote, sell out, which you know I'm very happy. They did thisbecause I wouldn't be recording as podcast it they didn't, but they soldout and they finally bit the bullet and they're like all right, it's time tomake star wars, toys and it's very significant, because the late s and theearly two USAND s. This is a pretty commonly known leg of fect. It's a badtime for Lego man again, there's a lot of ironing this episode, becauselooking back on this, it just seems weird but likge. It was struggling as acompany. Lego now is the number one toy brand in the world. The lego brand isthe most recognized brand in the world. It's more popular than Farari like Lego.Is that big, but back in the day, back in the late s in the early two housandswhen star wars, Lego, forst stared to come out like I was struggling, peoplewere not buying Lego, quite as much as they were, and they were experimentingwith a lot of things and failing and leco actually almost went under. Theyalmost sowed Lego to a big WIG toy company. It's crazy to think aboutbecause of how popular Lego is today, but back in the day, Lega Wereley wasnot doing too hot and there are a couple of things that can be accreditedto legos turnaround as a company. Bianicle is one and we will definitelytalk about bioticle in the future of this podcast. But Star Wars is anotherhuge reason. Star Wars is still to this day, the most popular Lego theme of alltime. It is it's the highest selling Lego theme of all time, year and andyear out, it's the most popular Lego theme and Star Wars episode. One is thereason for it, because there's a new star wars, film, coming out LECOfinally decides to make products based off star wars, now star wars, toys for the Phantom menacehave a strange history because of the phantom menace as a film. Now this is atitle I'm about to give the FHANTON MINUCE and it's up for some debate, butI still think it holds this title today and that is the title of mostanticipated movie of all time. Sixteen years there were sixteen years betweenthe end of the original trilogy and the beginning of the prequal trilogy, thatis, the single longest gap between Star Wars, films ever that it's the longestgap ever it was almost two decades worth where there were no new star wars, theatrical releases so to say the hype for a New Star Wars film after all, this time was huge, is an understatement. The Phantom minace wasanticipated by, I think, just about everybody and their Mama in theenthigher world. People are freaking nout about this film and then the film comes out now. Look,I think if they had a meace, the only movies that could really compete withthe anticipation level, for it would be episode, seven, the Force Awakens ormaybe adventures in game, but both those movies have something that thefate of MIT is didn't, and that was very good. Critical reception likeForsoakans has ninety something percent. Roun tomatoes in game also has likeninety five percent. Those are very well received movies. The Phantom Menus, while I think it is still to this day,...

...is the most anticipated movie of alltime. I also think you could debate this. Is The piggiest disappointment incinematic history. Now, personally, I love the phantom menace. I love thephantom minus not because of the quality of film, but because ofNostalgia. I'm a huge star wars fan and I literally grew up with this film. Iwatched this film all the time when I was a kid I had. The toys like thisfilm means a lot to me and my childhood. Now I major in you know kind of filmproduction in College, I'm a big movie Guy and as much as I love this movie, because I' nostalgia's sake, I can amite it's not really a good movie. There are a ton of problems with this movie, there's some great stuff in it,but there's a ton of issues with this film which led to this movie, I think, being the biggest let down in film history. The Phantom menace veryunfortunately came out and it really disappointed a ton. I mean a ton ofpeople and the toy sales were very affected by this. Now, before the moviecame out, they did their typical thing that they do now like force Friday. Itwasn't called that back then, but they released the toys I believe in March,so the movie came out in May of ninety nine. The toys came out in early March,so a couple months before the release of the film and yet again I coal usethis word. There was a frenzy to get these phantom minis toys. People wereflocking, the stores toys were selling out, it was pandemonium Star Wars, toyswere back baby and then the movie came out and all of a sudden everyone's likewait. A second charger beaks was kind of terrible. Wado was kind of horrible, like this movie wasn't very good. Oh all of e sudden kids and collectorsdidn't really want a Jargar or a a Saboba action figure. They didn't wantthe young, Anakan, merchandise or Gungan vehicles, and you know what happened. You knowwhat happened. Y'll. The toy sales plummeted it for the first time, prettymuch ever in Star Wars, toys, Star Wars, toys are now going on clearance oldtoys, arusses have beens full of old Phantom Menos toys piling up on megaclearances because I just want to get rid of this stuff and the Phantom Ind.His toys are not hard to find payto. Mis Toys are actually super common. Youcan go on Ebay and you can find them for very cheap, and I guarantee you, Iguarantee you. If you go to the nearest like antique or thriftstore around youand antique shop, they're, going to have a weird little toy section nearthe back of the store and they're going to have a number of Phantom minisactionfigures. I guarantee that's going to happen like every nt sort of ever beenam always has these figures and they're always selling them for like four daynight in today's currency, which is cheaper than what they were back, onethousand nine hundred and ninety nine phantom menace toys plummeted. Thesales were not good and unfortunately for Lego, they finally made Star Wars:toys, but the first big wave of Star Wars- toys, the majority of sets theymade were based off now. This very disappointing star wars, film in thePhantom minutes now Lega was smart and not only did they release phantom INAstuff. They also release sets based off of the original treiology. So they madeyou know, land, speeders and snow speeders, ex wings and tifighters andWywings, and all that good stuff they made that stuff and that stuff soldwell. That stuff has appreciated in value a lot, but phantomin is stuff-hmm, not so much so the Phanta minus all of a sudden for Lego is kind of thedisappointment, and you can see that it was a disappointment in the number oftoys they made because they clearly had a plan to make a bunch of episode, onetoys. But then, after a couple F years...

I was like yeah, you know screw episode, one we're just going to stop doing that and we're going to focus on. You knowthe Star War stuff people actually like so, let's die. Then, to dissecting allof the Phantom minasets Lego has ever produced now, corn to bricksets Lego made. Fortyhas made up to this point. Forty one episode one set, so a pretty goodamount, its actually forty two, if you can't the UCS boo starfighter, whichobviously you should that one's just listed under the UCS sub theme, ratherthan episode, one SOTHAT's a lot of sets, but the biggest wave to this dateepisode one sets ever was the first one they actually released. Eight setsbased off episode, one in one thousand nine hundred and ninety nine. Now thissis snificane, because this is a bigger wave than we've gotten for any of thessequet trilogy, Disney Aero, Star war stuff. The biggest ways we have gottenare seven sets from the fource owakens and seven sets from the last Jedi. Sothose ones had seven sets episode. One got eight all the way twenty one yearsago, so that is pretty significant and they really covered a lot of ground. With this first wave ofson one sets you had sets ranging from price points ofsixdoars all the way to ninetydollars, and these are unadjusted for inflationprices. The original prices of these sets now the first set is thelightsaber duel. This set to this day, I think, is absolutely fabulous. Thisset is great because it was a six dollar set that came with darth mole onhis speeder Quygon Jin and a moisture evaperator. It's a small little scenein a very small cheap set, beget one of the main heroes and the main villainsof the film in an iconic lightsaper scene. On Tad and win, I mean that is agreat set and Lega does not make suff like that anymore. I mean they make. You know twenty thirty dollar versions of stuff like this, but for six bucksthat is really hard to beat Awso for six dollars. They made what they call adroid fighter. Now I think any star wors fan can tell you that droidfighter isn't really an accurate name. These things are, of course, calledvulture. Droids they've made plenty of them in the future. Well, talk aboutanother one later on in this video. This was sixdolars a great purchase, nofigures, but a great thing for the collection- and you can already seeLego- is really committing to this way, because they're making these small setsthat they're, probably hoping, will sell very well, but then they're alsomaking some bigger more specific scenes, but Continu ow with the small stets forten dollars back and any night we had the namboo swamp. This A had fourfigures for ten bucks, which is like battlepack material. That's really good, and the four figures were two battle droids on steps, so you got two staffs, not one but two, which is great for army building and a STAP stands for asingle trooper aerial platform. So it's like you know those vehicles the Bauderwould staying on and they you know, speed around really cool littlevehicles. You also got, I believe, Quigon Jin in another cheap set mighthave been OBI on cuobe. It's either one of those two actually can't remember, and then, of course this was the cheapest set. You could get Garge, Ur,binks and now jarge. Our binks is a very significant legofigure in thehistory of legofigures and here's. Why jarge? Our binks is the first everlegofigure to have a specially moulded head before this. Every legofigure, normal lego figure ever had the typical Lego MINIFIG head, but jarger binks.Obviously I don't really think his head would translate very well to that style. So LECO had to make a brand new mould for just his head, and this mode is sogood sis such a good mold that they're still using it to this day. They havenever redone the Gunkan headmold. Now, in ninety nine, the charger head moldwas Tan with no details, thise all moded details, but there was no printeddetails and they have since added...

...printing to make it look. You know morereallist to the film but they're still using that the xact same head piece, which I think is really cool and as much as you might hate, jargor beinksand might hate this figure because of it this figure is significant and anymini figure. Now any great figure like a trolsmani figure or whatever. Nowthat has a specially moded head need to go back in time and thank charge, ourbinks for that, because without him maybe we wouldn't have any of thosefigures today. So I think that's a really fun little tidbit about thejargear bigs figure now for fifteen dollars. In this original way we hadanakins pod racer. I think this is one of the most desirable things in the set, because the pod race scene still to this day is one of the best scenes inthe Phantom minutes. It's a great scene. It really holds up, and even though themovie, maybe not might not be great, that scene is still great and Anikinspoter Racer fifteen bucks for an iconic vehicle. That's a fantastic deal, greatsat. It came with Annacan a pitroid and Padmay a lot of good characters, a lotof good stuff and kind of a weird thing: We're going to talk about that Pod,racer and just a minute, because the same design actually comes in adifferent set in this way, which is very odd for twenty dollars. There wasthe original Nabou star fight. An other niboos star fighter is, of course, Ithink, one of the most of not the most iconic ships from episode, one, it's agreat ship. It's a beautiful ship Leo has made it lot and we'll talk aboutthat and just a minute, but the Nabou Star fighter is an iconic shiperepisode, O one Great Twenty dollar sat with Anacan and some battledroids, butthis set, if you are following along, if your listen this in the car, don'tyou know get on. Google look up the images, but if you're at home, let'sinthis or watching on Youtube, go to bricksitcom. Look up this. Ninety nine,a Boo star fighter set because it sucks it's really bad. It's a terrible set. Some of these sesides actually hold up pretty well today by old lego standards, then the BOOSTI fighter is not one of them. That ship is so sleek in themovie. So seeing that vehicle tos be so ridiculously blocky is kind ofhilarious and it looks really bad so then the Boo star fighter, unfortunately does not hold up. Speaking of not holding up the thirtyoriginal syth infiltrator also looks pretlty pretty bad kind of like theoriginal tie fighters. This one had a lot of blue accent, details which isjust not accurate to the film and it's super blocky. It does not look verygood. It was thirty bucks. It only came with Darth Moll, we already mentioneddark. Mall Came Ana, much cheaper six dollars set. There was no real goodreason to buy this one. I think this is probably the worst set of the originalwave now for fifty dollars. We got the Gungan sub. I love the Gunbin sub as aship, because it's so unique in Star Wars, because star wards is full ofspeeders, walkers and, of course, spaceships getting something. That's asubmarine like really a submarine that is so different and unique, and it wasa really cool sequence to have the whole underwater world. On the boo withthe gun guns and the Gungan sub is such a unique ship, I think hat's a greatset. It actually holds up pretty well today as well, and finally, the biggestset of the original line was the Moss Espapoderase. This set was ninety dlars,a very large set, Byn, onethousand, nine hundred and ninety nine standards. It came with Gasgano's pond racer, which I think is is like the only timewe've ever gotten Gasgano's pod, so that was very unique part of this set.We also got sabobos pod, racer and Saboba kind of like how jarger was thefirst like custom moment head. So Bobo was a completely custom, moted piece, avery unique piece for a leg of figure and we also got Annakans pod o. Theweird thing is like I mentioned: We...

...already got Annakans pod in the Spellerset, and this was the same design. So if you bought both sets, you had twowhich is kind of weird, but I think it's a good thing because they made itvery accessible and easy to get the original Anikans pod racer withouthaving to buy the giant set. But if you're completionist and you want tocollect the entire wave, I could see why some people might be a little bitpeeved that they just put the exact same design. Now this Disn't reallycome with too much of Moss S, but has a couple? Small side builds and lots ofmany figures. For the most part, it focuses in on the three pod racers, andI think this to this day, this is a fantastic set. I wish I had this set. It's a said. I've always wanted it's a great sit and I would love to see Legoremake, something like it in the near future. Now, let's move on because thatwas t one thousand nine hundred and ninety nine wave of Phantom in esets.Obviously, all this stuff was planned way before the movie came out andbefore Lego knew that this movie was going to be a big letdown and the toysales were going to plummet. Now I'm assuming the second Waye that came outin the year twothousand was also probably planned even before the moviecame out, because I'm Lego probably had the idea in their head that episodeone's going to be huge, everyone's going Na love it and everyone's Goingtowant the toys and of course it didn't happen episode one came out, it wasn'tthe you know, it was a financial success. I mean it made a billiondollars twenty one years ago, but the toy sails like I've already mentionedjust, were not nearly as high as people at hoped. They were so Lego, probablyplan this second wave, a big second wave with the idea that they were goingto capitalize more on the successive episode one toys, and then it didn'thappen. So the second wave included the gungin patrol. This is a small tendollar set that came with George R binks hits a great setman. I think it'sa really really good set because it came with a Cadoo. This is the onlytime Lego has ever made a cadoo figure. They have yet to remake it in like twenty years. I would love tosee it made again and of course Cadoo I think now has you can buy the ribs ofcadus for eating at Galasy's Edgat Disney we're on disty lanwhch is kindof funny, but Yeah Kadus are those weird like bird ostrich creatures atthe gungoons right around on really weird looking creature, but it's a coolLeko mode, and I think this is again one of the first like creature modesever and Lego for Star Wars, so at a great piece that still exclusive tothis set today I do have a cutting a couple of this set in my collection, because I know I have those Kado figures line around somewhere. Also forten dollars. Hat Year we got the original Flash speeder. I love thefleshbeader, it's so green green is one of my favorite colors in thefleshspeeder is just strikingly green and it's a very simple speed or design. But it's green and it looks great. It came with an Abou Officer, not a supercomplicated set, but a cool one, none the less and then one of the mostbeloved original Legostar war sets of all time. We got the Twentyar originalAAT. This set, the trade federation AAT isone of the best Lego Star War sets ever in my opinion. The reason is because itholds up today. This design does not look twenty years old. It still looksgood by two thousand and twenty Lego standards, and that is absolutelyremarkable in my opinion, and the sad thing is the remake of it. Thathappened fifteen years later in two thousand and fifteen. That will talkabout a minute here. The remake of this vehicle wasn't as good. It just wasn'tas good, and it's very sad that this vehicle here was so good twenty yearsago, and then, fifteen years later, they made a version that was somehowworse like how does that happen? Le Go come on that is weak, but high praisefor the original AAT. Also in this way...

...we got kind of a weird one. It wascalled the Star Wars Bucket. It was like it came with Anakin, and I think Ibecame with a couple of pod race parts and you could like build pod racers andmake your own custom. Pods kind of a weird thing. Lego hasn't really doneany more of this sort of thing for star war, O I'm assuming this set, I not sowell very strange set that was twenty five ollars and finally, we got thetrade federation MTT or the MTT we're going to talk about the Mtt a littlebit later on in this episode, because the MTT has a very important place inLego, stars history, but not this one. The original mptt is fifty bucks. Thevehicle is obviously very brown, the movie, but the original one was like amix of Brown with Tan and grays. It was ugly, it was really ugly and, unlikethe AAT, it does not hold up today a pretty horrible design, one of theworst original episode. One sets maybe, besides that titimfiltrator that wealready mentioned now after two thousand the amount of EPOepisode, one sets Lego produced for the next six years was very, very low fromtwo thousand and one before two, two thousand and six that little six yeartime frame, we got four four episode. One set we had gotten thirteen prior inthe past two years and then after that for the next six. We just get fourepisode, one sets which is kind of pathetic, but also very understandablebecause of the sales for the toys of this film. So those four sets are theten dollar battle, droid troop carrier, which has been remade a couple of timesgreat little kind of precursor to the battle pack. It had the vehicle thatyou do see duringing the battle of Teboom, with, I think seven battledrodfigures great great set and then one said thet came Ou, two thousand and oneit's a set that I've always wanted. I just never gone around to perchasing it,because I don't want to spend the big bucks on Ebay that is Wado's junkyard, how a weird set and one it's. The first time I ever got a wat O figure, whichit took three years for Lego, to actually make a lide of figure forepisode. One, even though he's a pretty prominent character in the film. Thisset also comes with a pod racer, which is really cool. It was a fifty dolarset back in the day, a very unique set and was another opportunity to addanother pod racer to the evergrowing kind of Moss, ESPA pod race display. Soit's a really cool set, it's a one that I still want today and has never beenremade, so very unique, set in a very cool set, two thousand and two. This isthe last year for a while that we saw any Lego Star Wars episode one setsofficially under that subthing. We got two sets this year and there are twosets that were kind of meant to go together. They were called Jedy defenseone and shed I defence to that's the name of the sets. They also did thisfor the OT at they had final dul one in Fenalto to based off of episode. Six,the return the Jedi these ones are based off the Phantomminus, and thesesets here the first one was Obiwom canobe and two droid ICAUZE. Now thisis the first time I think they made Jorda cousin, like o form. It was apretty cool, brickbook design that used a lot of the battledroid arm piece andlight gray, and some brown pieces to make them pretty cool thing. Droyticazsare pretty cool and it came with OGE on Kanobi. That was it. There wasn'treally like an actual abillit was just three figures. The second version camewith two battldroid officers: Quak Onjin and a little door like the dooron the trade federationship at the beginning of the movie that they cutthrough so the door, pretty underwhelming build couple mini figures, and this was of course just supposed to set up the scene from the beginning ofthe Phantom minutes and episode. One were Quaan obewan destroy all theseGORDICAS and battledroids. It was kind of cool, they're, Bost, seven dolars, each again kind of like precursors to battlepacks good scene, very, verycheap way to get those man characters...

...little weird, that they came out in twothousand and two because this is, of course was the release episode to thatyear, but they came out a little bit before that movie came out interestingsets and those were all she wrote for Star Wars episode, one sets for a whileLego didn't make any for five years. Besides one and two thousand and three, this is a technically according to brick, set not listed under thesubtheme of episode, one because it's actually an ultimate collector seriesset. I believe it's the only ultimate clocter series set besides theDarthamall bus, which also wasn't listed under episode. One this this setthat we're talking about is the UC S Naboo Star fighter. Now this is a weirducs set, because it's to this day the cheapest ucs set. It was forty bucksbecause it came with one hundred and eighty seven pieces so that price orpiece is horrible. It's over twenty cents for peace. The Reason Tho said was so expensive, though, is because it had chrome pieces. It's the only Ta Boostar fighter Legohas ever made with the accurate chrome pieces to recreate the exterior, and itwas beautiful. It was beautiful for some reason, though they did have anArtudu to head, but the cockpit was actually just made of black piecesinstead of transparent parts. So you couldn't put an actual pilot in there, which is just weird to me. I thought that was a big missopportunity, butit's still a great set tot's it. I wish I had because of those sick, crumpieces and those parts are very expensive on after markets, but fromtwo thousand and two to two thousand and seven. Besides that UC US toboostarfighter. There was, I think, nothing from Lego, Star Wars, episodeon the Phanto, minuce and then Lego remade sets from that film for the first time intwo thousand and seven. So these sets are coming about seven or eight yearsafter their original counterpart. So we got our first remake of the Nabou Starfighter and the normal minifik scale non UCS. This Nabou Star fighter wastenars more. It was now thirtydolars, however, it also included a vulturejoid at Anakan skywalker artwo AF vulter doy in te Bu starfighter. I lovethis set. I think, to this day this is the best normal, the BLU starfightersset, because it kn it creates a really cool battle scene for a very good price, because the vulture joy back in the day was six bucks, so getting that in a Boostar fighter back in the day would have been twenty sixdolars, but adjusted forinflation. Thirty dollars seems very fair for this set and I have a greatstory about this set little anatdote that I want to share with you guys here, real quick in two thousand and seven. I was about ten years old and I saved upall my money to order the Lego Hoth Echo, BAS, set. They made a really coolecho base set back then, and I ordered that set. It was fifty dolars. I got itfrom LEGOCOM, it came in the mail. I was excited to build it and, to mydismay somehow this is like one of the only times ha ever happened to me. Notonly was a peace missing, I mean leg. It was very good with their pieacequality control. Usually all the pieces are always there, but this sen was notonly missing a piece. It was missing. One of the big white base plates thatwas used to make the bake, so I las like legitimately, could not build it. I could not build this set because I didn't have the bass platepiece in Leco. Customer Service is super kind if you're ever missinganything there's ever a problem with your purchases from Lego. Just contact, customer servers, they're super chill they're super nice and they will kindlygive you what they want. So they sent me of the piece in the mail and because they forgot thepiece they're like you know what we're also going to give you a free key chain. They gave me a free Keychain, I believe,...

...of the like clone pilot figure from theviewwing set that year, but they actually sent this package to the wrongaddress. They sent it to our own dress and we had moved but from away all awayfrom that house and they sent it to the wrong address. We were like Hey Lego,it never came theyre like actually it did and we're like werd you sittingthere like what's Inat this address and they're like Oh, my gosh, we seidt itto the wrong place so because they sent it to the wrong address. They were soapologetic that they sent me the piece again they sent me the keychain againand they're like you know what for your trouble, because we messed up so badwe're going to send you a free, two thousand and seven Naboo Star fightersset so because Lego for got to give me that pizza at the echo base set. I gotthe two thousand and seven the Boo Star fighter set for free, and I was tenyears old. This is like a dream come true, because I was never going to beable to afford that set and it was awesome to get that set. Okay, that's alittle side story over that set has a special place in my heart, because thatstory also that year for thirty dollars, we had the first reemake of thes sithinfiltrator, now remakes se, temple traders and up Bostide frighters havekind of become a meme and we'll talk about that. Just a minute sit that wereTun, O remake is pretty bad. This versorantisn't seven just it's a weirddesign, it's very clunky and put together oddly, I am not a big fan ofthat. Also that year for Ninetydollars, I believe a toys ar US exclusive of thetime we got the republic cruiser, which I think I got for either my birthday orChristmas that year, because it's a big set great set great reppetation thatvehicle. I remember the vehicle being a little bit flimsy back in the day likeit didn't stay together super well, but I also was young and probably justbuilt it wrong. Unfortunately, I was a dumb kid and completely destroyed thatset, because I wish I had that still on display in my collection, because Legohas never made it again. That vehicle has never been made again in Lego Form;hopefully they remake it here, the next few years or so, because I do love thatvehicle and I think it's super cool, but Lego has yet to rebake that set tothis day, thirteen years later and then. Finally, the fourth and final episode, one set from the year two thousand and seven- is detray federation MTT, theremake of that set that came out in the year two thousand this set. I asked my followers aninstagram. What's your favorite set from episode, one and a lot of peoplevoted for sitival traders, n the Boo Star fighters, and some other sets Ihaven't mentioned yet, but thee resounding number, one choice by a mile-and I am inclined to agree with Youall the Trade Federation Mtt set from twothousand and seven is, to this day considered to be the best set from StarWars episode one. It was a one hundred dollar set with thirteen hundred andfifty ish pieces which that peace coup today would make it be like a hundredsixty dollar set. It had twenty one, twenty one battle, droid figures thatis insaying, that's so many that Aljoy Mani figures included with this setthis Vikou. This was the ultimate design and this design again, I implory. If you don't know what it looks like look it up, it was a spectacular design.I mean seriously such a good design that still holds up to this day. Ithink Lego could repackage this set with updated pieces and Mani figures, and it would look just as good as it did in two thousand and seven. No onewould complaint. It looks like a design that could pass by two thousand andtwenty Lego Star war standards. That set is just that good now, for anotherfew years, Lego didn't really make again any stars episode in One Sese:They kind of storp making them and then in two thousand and eleven four yearslater, they had another small wave of...

...four sets spread across a couple ofdifferent ways for episode one now. The important thing to remember here is back before Disney purchased, LucasFilm Twentyos Century Fox, which ironically disdey now as well. Theywere planning on rereleasing. All the Star Wars, movies and thred, so in twothousand and twelve, they actually rerelease star wars episode, one, thePhantom menace and three D I saw in Thre D. I still have my darth mallcollector thrity glasses is my second viewing, because a little fun factabout the Phantom Minist. Other reason that movie means a lot to me isaccording to my parents. I don't remember this because I was like twoyears old at the time recording to my parents, my family, the first movie Iever saw in theaters when I was two years old, was episode, one, the fansand menuce. It's almost like. They took me to see that movie and that paved theway for the rest of my life. It's like they were setting me up to be ahumoncous star wars, nerd back when I was two years old, so the movie, themovie, holds a special place in my heart because I had not only saw I inninety nine at the first movie theater experience of my life, but I also sawit intothusand and twelve. I was rereleaseon thrt now later in ThoThousand and Twelve Disney purchased Lucas film, and they cancel all theplans for releasing rereleasing the starwars movies in thred they're, goingto rerelease in two thousand and thirteen the episode two set, which iswhy there was a big episode, two wave in two thousand and thirteen an Ypintwo thousand and fourteen there's a big episode, three wave they're going to doit one a year. They canceled. All of that which is kind of unfortunate, because I would have loved to have seen those movies in Threedan theaters again, but whatever I digress so for two thousand and eleven they kind ofbecause they were going to rerelease the movie. I think Lego kind of plannedto make a bunch of episode one set, so they made another Nabu Star fighter nknow this was just four years removed from the last one. This one did notinclude a vulture droid, but it was twenty dolars more. It only had aboutfifty more pieces, but somehow had a twenty dlar increase in price and itbecame a fifty dollar set. That is a horribly price set, and I completelyskit in this one because of that reason they also made us hat. They called thebattle of Maboo, which is essentially just a remake of the baldroid troopcarrier. It was a twenty five dollar set. It came with a lot of baladroidfigures, also came with a Gungan warrior and Jarger Bingson, the Gon. No,where you had a really cool shield MoD for their. You know, purple shields, that was a great piece great set. The sytital trader was remade. I alsoskippe in this version, because it was seventy bucks, really expensive pricemore than twice as much as the previous to more than the previous to combined.Ironically enough. This set, I think, to this day, is the only teme to evercome with Captain Panaka, and I really really really really wish. I had thatfigure, but unfortunately I get fom the set, because the design just isn'tgreat and then I think clearly the best episode one saying n one of the bestEPOS on one sets they've ever made was the two thousand nd Leven version ofANACAN Ansibalbas pod racers. A ninety dollar set- I got this set with myyoutube money back in the day on the way back from Brickfar, two thousandand eleven. So that's that kind of has a special place in my heart. It's afantastic set, the designs they did remake the Anakins Potracer we'll talkabout a minute, but the soul is poteraser, that's the most recentversion, Tha vehicle and the design still holds up today. Unfortunately, again, I think I threw that set in a box and it kind of fell apart and Idon't have a belt anymore. I really wish I did, but that is a fantastic setfor two thousand and eleven now two thousand and twelve, which is the yearepisode. One was actually rereleased. The box are for Lego, Star Wars thatyear had darthmall on it. It's kind of weird, but the boxheart had darth mallon it, and it was this episode, one themed Boxhard that still looks reallycool. I love that box hart, but they actually only released one set fromepisode one. So only one set fon, this entire years had box heart that youknow made sense for what the set was, and that was the first and only everremake of the NABU gun. Gan Sup, I love...

...this set. It was a expensive set, but Ilove it because I think the design one is really creative and looks great, butit's also the only way the only queen, Amadala figure Lego has ever made. This quenonala figure has a crazycustom, headpiece and a crazy custom dress piece. It's an absolutelyfantastic. Looking minifigure and the figures worth a lot of money, I'm notgoing to sell mine because it's a very important mini figure to me, but if Iwanted to, I can make a lot of money for this figure. That figure is worth aTut and, of course, that set is worth a lot as well, because of that figure. Now, for the next few years there wasn't really much besides untilimfourteen, there was a toyserus exclusive set that I rememberspecifically purchasing after I was babysitting. I was babysitting somebodyand it was for a fairly wealthy kid or family had a wealthy, wealthy familywith the kid, and they paid me way too much money. They Pai me a lot of moneyto bade me sit and ie got so much money. I just like didn't know what to do withthis. I went to toys, R us and bought this Mtt, which this version was tendolars cheaper than the one that came out seven years prior, but it had athink about four hundred less pieces. I think twelve less battle drug figuresand it does not look as good it's better than the original version, and Idon't think it's terrible. It has some good functions and it's not a horribledesign, I'm glad to have an MPTY tem, my collection, but unfortunately thisremake is not as good as the original version or not not as good as thatwothousand and seven version of this same vehicle. I'm happy to have it, butit's not a great set, and I think a lot of people consider this to be one ofthe more disappointing sets from Legostar wars. Speaking ofdisappointing CETROLICA, Star wards you're, getting towards the end here ofthe cataloge upsode one sets thousand and fifteen, we got a twenty fivedollar the first and only remake of the episode one Trade Federation Aat. Now Ialready mentioned this earlier. When I raved about the version that came out,two thousand thic ISN'n fifteen version suck it had no exclusive figures. Thedesign doesn't look good, it's missing tons of details, that is a horrible set,and unfortunately I still own it, but it's the only aat that I own, and Iwish I had a better version of it. I don't want to show out the big bucksfor the two thousand version. Also that year we got another balgoid trip.CAREHC is four year at the last one. That's one was bigger: it had likefifteen moundroid figs. It was a fantastic set. Great designers likeforty bucks, the had almost six hundred pieces really really good deal. Thatwas a great set and we also got the only remake ever of the flashspeader.I've already talked about how I love the flashbader. I love its green colorscheme, the remake it was three times as much O was thirty dollar, but it wasa good deal. It's a great design. Cool vehicle had a lot of figures and I'mglad to have that in my collection and then yet again it was almost like startlikea star wars with episode Onaon. This word like four year cycle, twothousand and seven four years later to doys eleven four years later, twothousand and fifteen. We got another Naboon Star fighter and another sythinfiltrator. They just keep making these vehicles. Man, two thousand andnineteen. This past year I was like, is Lega going to do it again. It's thefour year rotation. They did not actually make repake than taboosedifiters it the filtrator. Thankfully, because I don't think anybody reallyneeds one of those in their collection right now. I'm sure Thatwe make itagain in a few years, but it will be a bigger gap in time before we get thenew ones. These, I think, are the better versions I mean they did BUstarfighter. I still like the Tis on seven set more because of the nostalgiafor me and the price, but this is a good design for it, and it came with alot of figures from Georda cuds and some cool. Like Bas stuff. It was amuch better deal for fifty dollars, an the version that came out in twothousand and eleven the symtimal trader again had a big price drump all the wayto ninety dollars, and this set another little anedotea had to share with youguys in twothousand and teen. I ordered...

...a bunch of sets on May fourth, you knowfor they made the fourth be with you, Lego, promotion figure or a bunch ofsets up like Acom, and I got my package and I thi sets. I orderd pretty small. My package felt really heavy and I was like. Why is my package? So heavyopened up my package and I got not one but two. Yes, two, the BOO starfighters from Lego for free. They just accidentally sent me tuna, boostarfighters. I don't know why. I don't know how I gave him a lad of friends, because I already had to set myself. I didn't need it. They just sent it to meby accident at first I was like I should content Lego into MIDDACR and Iwas like you know what I could' lit go so much money over the years. I'm goingto keep these things. That was a crazy moment, and there probably is someoneout there that ordered to not ne Bou Star fighters. It was the sit empletrader. I'm sorry, I missspoke. I got two free se Dibl traters, but there'sprobably somebody out there who ordered to sit tepl traders to do somethingwith them, maybe one for his kid and want for him to keep and unfortunatelythat guy or Gal did not get their package in the mail which just kind ofmakes me sad. That's a little funny story about that SA devil trader nowwe're getting close to the end. There's only two more sets to talk about notcutting like radom, polly bags and stuff that we're not going to mention, because who really cares? Two thousand and seventeen we got one set andactually took so long for them to make a set of this eighteen years. They madea set that they calld the duel. On the BOO. It's the duel of the faith, it'sOBE on it's Quygon, it's Darth Mall. It was a twenty five dollar set a smalllittle play set representation of this iconic scene from the film it was anokay set. A lot of people actually listed this as one of their favoritesets from Lego. Starwars episode won the Sub Theng, which I thought was kindof interesting, because I thought this set was an underwhelming and way toosmall of a design. I wish it was bigger, but yeah people love that set. Ipersonally don't, but it's a good set. It's a decent set and it's a course agreat scene. It is great to get that scene in Lego form and finally, thefinal setwe can talk about the most recent episode. One set for thetwentieth, Anniversity Lego, Star Wars this past year, until nineteen, thankfully Lego actually didn't make a set based on episode to which is kindof sappointing. But thankfully they did make a set to honor episode, one whichmakes sense because episode one is what kicked off Lego Star Wars Twenty yearsago now, twenty one years ago, in ninety nine, it made perfect sense tomake this into a set. They remade Anakins pod racer based off the versionthat came out in ninety nine twenty years later. This version was thirtybucks. It was twice as much, but it did have a big GEMT on peace count had thesame too many figures, wit Padma had a new hairpiece. Unfortunately, it didnot have a pitroid theydid, not include a pictroid in this set, which is theone thing I think it's missing, that the original set had butit's a greatupid design, still a pretty cheap way to get this iconic vehicle, and I'mreally glad they made that set over again. So there you have it that isLegostar wars episode one the history of sets from this film.
