LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

LegoLee329 sets sail once again into the world of pirates, but this week he focuses on the Pirates of the Caribbean Disney theme and all the elements that made this theme and film series what it is today.

Good morning, good afternoon, goodevening, whenever wherever you're listening. Thank you so much making me a partof your day. My name is Leeparm. You might know me as Lego Leeor Lego Lee three to nine. From facebook, twitter, instagram,Youtube, Patreon, you name it, I'm all over the Internet and youare listening to the brick Ology podcast, the study of small plastic bricks. How are you doing today? I sincerely hope you're doing well. I don'tthink I need to beat the dead horse anymore. Obviously everyone knows what's goingon in the world right now with the whole coronavirus pandemic. It's absolute craziness. But the silver lining is my streams for brick ology have quad troupled inthe past month. Brick Ology is doing so much better than it was.The first few weeks were rough, but not that many people were listening, but now it really feels like I am reaching a lot of people with brickology and I am super excited about that and it really encourages me to makethe episodes even better for the future of this podcast. So that is greatand I am full steam ahead with one episode of Brick Ology a week forthe foreseeable future. I'm really excited about that. I'm going to be crankingout these episodes here. Today is the ninth episode of Brick Oology, whichmeans next week will be kind of my first milestone episode, if you will, with the first double digit episode, The ten episode of Brick Ology. And look out on my instagram because I'm going to have a voting contest ofsome kind of I'm entirely sure how I'm going to organize it yet, butthere will be a voting contest of some sort and you guys, the fans, will get to decide next week's topic for brick ology. And one morelittle quick announcement before I get into this week's topic. I am going totry and make brick ology a pattern. So one week we will have anepisode about a licensed Lego theme and then the next week I'm going to tryand alternate between license themes and then inhouse original unlicensed themes. So, forexample, this is actually already been going on for a while, but nowI think it's officially going to be a thing. The fifth episode was alicense theme of Toy Story. The six episode was unlicensed Ninjago. Episode sevenwas license again, with Indiana Jones. Last week's episode was unlicensed with LegoPirates, and if you watch last week's episode you would know I already actuallydropped the episode title for this week. This week's episode is it's an alicense theme week. So we're talking about Lego pirates of the Caribbean, notthe unlicensed pirates, the license pirates of the Caribbean line. So I'm goingto try and attempt to do that each week's that means next week's episode willbe an unlicensed theme. So think about an unlicensed theme you like to hearme talk about here next week and then tell me on instagram and I'm goingto do some sort of voting contest to help decide that whole thing. Sothat's all the fun random stuff out of...

...the way for briccology. We cannow die into this week's topic, which of course I already mentioned, isLego pirates of the Caribbean. And before we talk about pirates of the Caribbean, the Lego sets, we have to talk about pirates of the Caribbean thefilm series, and we talk can't talk about pirates of the Caribbean the filmseries without talking about the thing the film series originally based on which, ofcourse, is the famous Disney park ride. So way before the first pirates ofthe Caribbean movie was released in two thousand and three, all the wayback in one thousand nine hundred and sixty seven, the original pirates of theCaribbean Disney park ride was released at Disneyland in California. Now Disney has mademovies based off their rides before, parts of the Caribbean and they're doing someafter them, and they made it Tomorrowland movie and a jungle cruise movie wassupposed to come out the summer, I would leave it got pushed back totwo thousand and twenty one. So they've done things based on the Disney parksbefore, but nothing has been quite as influential as the pirates of the Caribbeanseries, and I think some of that kind of goes back to the iconicityof the pirates the Caribbean ride. The pirates of the Caribbean ride is oneof the absolute staples of Walt Disneyland and Disney world and there's different versions ofit at all the different parks across the globe and the first one opened upin one thousand nine hundred and sixty seven and it's actually a fairly significant ride, and here's why. It's actually the last ride that Walt Disney himself helpsdesign, the last ride ever that he designed. So it's kind of significantand that farm then, unfortunately, you know, he stopped designing rides andeventually passed away. So the original pirates of the Caribbean ride opened up inone thousand nine hundred and sixty seven. The Magic Kingdom version in Orlando,Florida, at Disney world opened up in one thousand nine hundred and seventy three, which is the one that I've been on. I have not been toDisneyland in California, and there are many different versions of the ride across theworld. The one at Disneyland is like five minutes longer than the one atDisney world. The one in Tokyo, I believe, has a crazy newsection where you go underwater and see like Davy Jones and the crack and allthat fun stuff. I mean, this ride has a lot of variations andit's very interesting that the film series, of film series as absolutely humongous asparts of the Caribbean literally was spawned from a simple theme park ride. Nowthe films themselves don't have a whole lot to do with the ride besides thename. Now, the first part of the Caribbean movie, the curse ofthe Black Pearl, does have some kind of inspirations from the ride. Thefirst act sequence, kind of that siege of that town is very, youknow, directly taken from the ride. And of course, little Easter eggslike the prisoners trying to get the keys from the dog in the prison bygiving him a bone like that's from the ride. However, the majority therest of the plot for the pirates of the Caribbean film, the first one, is its own aginal thing, its own original idea. It's doesn't comefrom the ride. They just took the name, took a couple of randomthings from the ride and then created an entire pirate world based off of that. And all of the characters in the...

...pirates of the Caribbean films are originalcharacters created for the movies themselves. Now I think it's important for this episodebefore we even talk about the movies, that's just kind of hit on,I think the four big major characters from the pirates of the Caribbean series itselfand of course I have to start with Captain Jack Sparrow, iconically played byJohnny Depp, and honestly I don't think it's a stretch at all to saythat Jack Sparrow is one of the most iconic characters in film literally ever.I mean this is seriously like a pop culture icon of a character, andJohnny Depp's performance and that original pirates of the Caribbean movie was so good itliterally earned him an Oscar nomination. Seriously, he got nominated for best actor atthe Academy Awards, the Oscars, for playing Jack Sparrow. You donot see a big blockbuster tent pull movie from a major studio that comes outin the summer getting nominations for acting awards at the Oscars. So that's prettyincredible that Johnny Depp was able to get an Oscar nomination for that film, and he deserves it. I mean that performance as Jack Sparrow is one ofthe greatest things ever. He's so good. He makes that character just absolutely chewup any scene he's in. So incredible. And also little fun tidbitabout Johnny Depp The actor. Jack Sparrow was his first manifigure and he isin the famous three minifigure club. He has Jack Sparrow from parts the Caribbean, of course, Tanto from the lone ranger and Grindel Wald from the fantasticbeasts film. So Johnny Depp is in the three minifigure club, which ispretty interesting. Now some other pirates, the Caribbean characters. We have willturner, played by Orlando Bloom. Orlando Bloom himself, along with the WillTurner and the Lego last minifigure, is in the two Mani figure club, which is pretty fun. And then, of course we have Elizabeth Swan, played by Care Knightley. And then finally we have Captain Barbosa, played byJeffrey Rush, and honestly I don't think Barbosa gets enough love. Jeffrey Rush'sperformance is I don't know if it's quite as good as Johnny Depp. isobviously not as iconic, but he really, really kills the Captain Barboza character. And you know Johnny Depp gets all the hype, but I think Barbosais almost as good, if not as good, a pirate character as Jacksparer sparrow. I absolutely love Jes Jeffrey Rush as Barboza. Now let's talkabout the first film in the pirates the Caribbean series, and that is piratesthe Caribbean and the curse of the Black Pearl. The first film actually hada subtitle, which is kind of interesting for a first film to have asubtitle right off the bat. And this movie, I don't think anybody isgoing to debate this with me. It's obviously the first film the series, but it is by far the best film in the series and in fact thisis little be one of my favorite movies of all time. I have amemory of seeing this movie in the theater, even though I think I was likesix years old. I absolutely love this movie as a kid growing up. I watch it fairly regularly and I recently, during the quarantine, thekind of boarder in the quarantine, I...

...made a list of my all timefavorite movies. Em Pirates of the Caribbean was in the top twenty five alltime for my favorite movies. I adore this film. This is a veryspecial film to me and I think it's a very special film to a lotof people. It's one of the most fun awesome movies ever made and,of course, Hans Zimmer iconic theme music cannot go without being mentioned. It'sone of the most iconic movie themes of the twenty one century, the firstparts of the Caribbean movie. It's amazing. It's seriously such a great film andobviously when you make a great film like that, they made over sevenhundred million dollars worldwide. Disney's like wow, we need to capitalize on that.So they made some sequels and I will say they actually didn't rush thesequels out. Sometimes you see like a sequel come out like the one ortwo years later. They had a solid three years between the sequels. Sothe first parts of the Caribbean sequel, dead man's chest, came out inthe year two thousand and six and this movie the box office shot up.It went up by about, I think, thirty three percent and it made overa billion dollars worldwide and I believe this is the highest grossing film inthis series to date. In this movie definitely expands the pirates of the Caribbeanuniverse. There's new environments and new creatures and, of course, worse, the new Villain Davy Jones, played by Bill Ni and Davy Jones, Ithink, is actually a pretty sick villain. First off, the CGI animation forhis face and his tentacle beard is incredible. Look it up. ThatCGI looks just about as good as any modern day CGI. Incredible special effectsreally just so well done. And the way he plays the pipe organ witha tentacle beard. It's real weird but it's super cool. And also,of course, this movie has the crack in, the crack in which isone of the more iconic things from pirates of the Caribbean and the krakens thememusic the pipe organs by Hans Zimmer some of the greatest movie music ever written. Seriously, so, so good. And of course the flying Dutchman aswell. Davy Jones is ship that goes under water. I mean all thoseeffects, all of that just super cool environments, awesome atmosphere. This moviedoes do a lot of great stuff. I will say, though, it'sdefinitely, I would say, a noticeable dip in quality from the first film. It's not quite as like briskly pace for entertaining. It's little more convolutedand definitely weirder and it has a very cliffhangerish ending. In fact, theyactually filmed the sequels two and three back to back. So dead man's chestand now moving into two thousand and seven with at world's end. We're filmedback to back, which does mean that we were kind of rushed into atworld's end. Instead of, you know, like taking their time to develop abetter script, they made them back to back and we rushed into atworld's end, which came out pretty much exactly a year after dead man's chest. And well, I think dead man's chest is actually a very solid movie. At world's end, I definitely think, has a very steep dropoff for thequality of this series. Now I...

...remember seeing this movie in theaters backin two thousand and seven. I have a very specific memory that the roofof my theater was leaking during this movie. It was raining outside, it wasthe summertime, there was a nice you know thunderstorms, shower and itwas raining in the roof was literally leaking water during this movie and honestly, for a pirates of the Caribbean movie, water leaking from the roof kind ofjust makes sense and helps add to the atmosphere. So that wasn't that biga deal. And this movie it picks up exactly where the last one letoff the dead man's chest. I won't spoil it, but it does havea very specific cliffhanger ending and at world's end literally picks up with that andruns with it, and I will give credit to this movie. This movieis very committed to its story. The story this movie is absurd, it'sridiculous and it just goes too far and gets too weird in my opinion. But instead of, you know, Disney as a studio interfering and telling afilmmaker to not do a very specific vision, they let Gorberzynski, the director thismovie, the writers of this film, they let them make a movie thatthey wanted to make clearly and they clearly made the vision they were tryingto execute, which is definitely commendable. It wasn't a great vision, itwas a pretty ridiculous vision, but I do respect the vision nevertheless. Thebox office did have a slight dip from dead men's chest. I'm sure somepeople saw the quality of dead men's chest like. It wasn't quite as good, so not as many people rushed out to see this film, but it'sstill made over nine hundred million dollars worldwide. It was crazy successful and even thoughit kind of wrapped up a trilogy, there was still slight set up forthe next film at the end of the movie where Jack Sparrow acquires amap for the Phantom of youth, the Phantom of Youth, the Fountain ofYouth. That had phantom menace on my mind for some reason. Fountain ofYouth, which brings us into parts of the Caribbean for on Stranger tides, which came out four years later in two thousand and eleven, not two thousandand eleven, is also when the Lego sets that were about to talk aboutwere first release. But we'll talk about the movie a little bit more herereal quickly now. This movie had some changes for the series. It hadthe first change in director. Orlando Bloom and cure nightly were no longer there, although Barbosa and Gibbs and a couple other characters do return. Of course, Jack Sparrow is the main character and this movie, like I said,is them searching for the Fountain of Youth and the Villain of this movie isBlackbeard, played excellently by in McShane. By far, I think the bestaspect of this film is in McShane as black beard. It's kind of oddthat black beard is the villain of this movie, because black beard is actuallya real life pirate, Edward Teach, a real person, a real pirate, who was supposedly buried on Oquacoke island off the shore of North Carolina, which is the state that I am from. So in see representing with black beardthere and some of his treasure might be buried around here as well. And I think this movie continues the downward...

...trend for this franchise. The qualitydefinitely just dips. It's a shorter movie, less convoluted in the last one,but it feels a lot more by the numbers and just not quite asinteresting. However, the box office numbers went up from the last movie. In this movie in fact again grossed over a billion dollars for the franchise, which is very interesting. And of course, in a movie grosses a billion dollars, it's already part of a big, successful franchise. Disney's like, HMM, okay, let's make another one. But it did take a while forthe next film to come out. This is the longest gap between piratesof the Caribbean movies. In two thousand and seventeen we got pirates of theCaribbean. Five dead, mentell, no tale so six years between those twofilms. This is the final film in the series. For now not reallysure what's going to happen. There's been lots of controversy with donny, JohnnyDepp, and Disney reportedly firing him, but then there were some other reportsthat what he, you know, supposedly did actually wasn't quite accuracy. Mightget rehired again. There's a lot of convoluted stuff going go around this series. I'm going to imagine that they're probably going to make some kind of piratesof the Caribbean movie within the next five to ten years. Whether it starsJohnny Depp, is decks Jack Sparrow is to be determined, but we shallwait and see. And this movie like kind of goes back to the rootsof the original trilogy, or Lando Bloom and cure nightly kind of return. But there are very views. They're not used a lot in the movie, although their son, the son of the will turn character, is actually amain character in this movie. and honestly, Johnny Depp completely mails in his performanceas Jack Sparrow. It really just seems like he was there for apaycheck and it's like a shell of his former self. I mean this characterthat wants lended him an Oscar nomination. Just definitely didn't have that feeling andafter five movies I think some of the novelty of the character wears off. However, Javey are Bardam, who was an Oscar winning actor, is inthis movie as Captain Salazar, who's a ghost pirate, or he's he's moreof a part of the Spanish ar model, like a conquisador pirate ghost. CoolVillain, cool special effects, interesting story. I think the best seenthis movie is the flashback with him of how he becomes a ghost. Thatwas a pretty cool scene this movie. But again a downward trend for thisseries. The quality just continues to dip. But oddly enough, I think youcould definitely make a debate that each next installment of the pirates of theCaribbean franchise is worse than the one that preceded it, which is kind ofinteresting. And this movie definitely saw a dip and box office. It's stillmade, I believe, over seven hundred million dollars worldwide, which is,you know, nothing to scoff at, but it was definitely less money thanI think Disney was hoping for. But overall the pirates the Caribbean series. In a nutshell, I think there was one fantastic movie. I think deadman's chest is actually a really solid movie. The rest of the movies, they'reentertaining and it's an interesting world and I don't hate them, I don'tmind watching them every now and then,...

...but they're definitely not as good. But overall this series grossed over four point five billion dollars worldwide. It hada budget about one point two billions. So the profit margins for Disney onthis series are wild and they eventually integrated characters from the pirates of the Caribbeanmovies into the theme park rides. I think in two thousand and six theyfirst added Jack Sparrow to the pirates of the Caribbean theme park ride and, like I mentioned, the Tokyo one has Davy Jones and all that stuff. So pirates of the Caribbean is this huge, mega hit franchise for Disney and itonly makes sense that lego would eventually make sets based off this film series. However, Lego did not make set space off this series for the firstthree movies. I actually specifically remember mecha blocks brows up on the inside megablocks making sets for pirates the Caribbean before Lego did. Hopefully I don't haveto mention mega blocks too much in other episodes of brick ology. That's,you know, mega blocks. We don't we don't talk about mega blocks here. I had a Lego podcast. But LEGO, you know, they reallystarted to pump out Disney products in the year two thousand and ten. It'swhen Lego really started to make Disney stuff. They had a contract with Disney before, but two thousand and ten is really like the first big year forLego Disney and I've actually already talked about in some episodes of brick ology andthe toy story episode. Toy Star is like the first big Lego Disney property. And then the first big, big Ish Disney movie for Lego to makesets based off of was the Prince of Persia film from two thousand and ten. And you know what, no one really cares about Prince of Persia, but parts of the Caribbean, for was coming out the next year, andI'm sure this is kind of just a precursor for Lego to ultimately make thepirates of the Caribbean four sets. That was something lego was really wanting tomake, not Prince of Persia. So parts of the Caribbean sets coming outfrom this Disney license is definitely just like a natural progression for Lego and Disney'spartnership. So in two thousand and eleven we got our first ever wave ofpirates of the Caribbean sets. Now, interesting thing is the first wave wasa mix of sets based off the new film on Stranger tides and there weresome sets based off the original trilogy. However, unlike Indiana Jones and toystory that we've talked about brick ology in the past, it did not releasethese waves separately. For any of Jones and toy story, they had awinter wave of the old movie sets and then the new movie sets that coincidedwith the release that summer came out. Those sets came out in the spring, right before the movie was released. They did not do that for piratesof the Caribbean. Kind of wish they did. Kind of wish they'd mademore sets for the original three films. They didn't, but we still didget a few sets based off of that original trilogy of pirates of the Caribbean, and let's talk about them here. The first, so we can talkabout the smallest set from the original trilogy. The twenty dollar set was the IslaDay Morta, the island of the dead, which kind of fits inthe Skool island thing that we mentioned in last week's pirate episode, and thisis the only set ever that was specifically based off the curse of the BlackPearl, the first pirates of the Caribbean...

...movie, which is gives me asad face because I love that movie and I wish we got, you know, more scenes from that film represented in Lego and there's definitely some iconic scenesthey could have made, but alas they didn't. However, this was stilla great twenty dollar set. Had A hundred fifty seven pieces for mini figures, tons of gold bar pieces and a cool transformation feature where you could putthe normal human version of Captain Barbosa and spin him around and he turned intothe skeleton version of the character, which is super cool and obviously an iconicthing from that film. And Jack Sparrow also had an exclusive double sided facewith a skeleton face as well, and this set was the only set toever include the Elizabeth Swan minifigure caret Knightley's characters. So all around a reallygood small twenty dollar place set for thirty dollars from dead man's chest, whichdead man's chess. Actually got. Three pirates of the Caribbean sets. Wehad the cannibal escape. I never got to say it's the only original trilogypirates the Caribbean set and never got I have no idea why I didn't getit, because it wasn't a horribly expensive set or anything, and it's actuallya pretty cool set. It's kind of reminiscent of the lego pirates islander subtheme that we talked about last week's episode of pirates and it includes cannibals, very dark. You know, I've mentioned on brick ology a lot that Legodoesn't like dark things. I don't like war, then like violence. Cannibalseat people. capables literally eat their own kind. They cook people and theyeat them. So I think it's very interesting that a Lego set was literallycalled the Cannibal escape. It could have been called like the island escate andwe'd all know it were. The cannon was the cannibals from the movie, but Lego literally is like hey, we got cannibals in our toy here madefor ages seven to twelve. I think it's kind of funny that they actuallymade a cannibal base set. Now in the movie the whole Cannibal sequence isvery tongue in cheek and kind of silly. So maybe lego solid as like theydon't really take the cannibals super seriously in the film, so we don'treally you know, had to hold back on making this Cannibal based set.It was a cool set. It had a nice play feature with like ahanging cage made of bones that will turn her injack sparrow are trapped in.It came with Jack Will Turner, which it's a cheapest way to ever getthe will turner minifigure, and it also came with, of course, theexclusive Cannibal minifigures now for forty dollars. Also based off dead man's chest,we had the mill. Now this, I think, is one of themore iconic action scenes from dead man's chest. It is the scene where the millwheel detaches from the structure and it's rolling around and they have a duelon the moving wheel. It's a great action set piece in the movie withsome iconic music and this set was a really good representation of that particular scene. It's the only set ever to include an Admiral Norrington minifigure, which issuper cool. Also came with the aforementioned Jack and will turner. It alsohad an exclusive Hadrass, who was one of Davy Jones's crew members, andhe had a like conch shell head.

Looked very creepy, very cool piece, and it had an absolutely fabulous play feature that you could literally have thewill wheel of the mill come off and roll around. Great play feature, really accurate depiction of this scene from the movie. Great all around. Fortyour set and one of my favorite, personal favorite pirates of the Caribbean setthat I ever got. And then the biggest set, based off the originaltrilogy of Pirates of the Caribbean films, which technically wasn't part of the firstwave. This said, actually came out in October of two thousand and eleven, as opposed I think April, which is when the other sets came out. This seat, of course, is the Black Pearl, the one hundreddollar black Pearl set, and this set means a lot to me. Ihave this set, actually still have this set built. Thank God. Ialways say this's in brick ology. That destroyed my old sets. I stillhave this set built this it is also worth tons of money now. It'sa very expensive set to get the Davy Jones me figure Wi, we'll talkabout just a second included here, is worth like a hundred dollars by himself. I was the first person to review this set on Youtube, like thisbig deal set. I think at the time was probably like the biggest setI'd ever reviewed. I was the first person to ever review the Black PearlLego pirates the Caribbean set, which is pretty awesome, and that video haslike over twentyzero views. It's consistently, I consistently random to get comments inthat video one of my biggest all time most viewed videos. So this sethas a very special place in my heart for that reason and it clearly hasa special place and a lot of your hearts as well, because this wasvoted on by my fans on Instagram as the Best Lego pirates of the Caribbeanset ever made. I do think it's like the set that I would wantthe most simply because it's the Black Pearl. It's the flagship from pirates of theCaribbean. Everyone wants the Black Pearl. However, the design of it isnot incredible. It's a fairly simple design. It's not super big becauseshe's compared to some other ships they've made from pirates of the Caribbean and thesales. They're just black but they're completely opaque and they don't have any tearsand the black pearls sales in the movie has tons of tears and I reallywished Lego had figured out in a creative way to incorporate those tears with thisset, but unfortunately they weren't able to do so. But it was stilla very cool set and it also included the exclusive Davy Jones minifigure that hadawesome pieces with his crab claw hand and his tentacle beard. That was agreat figure. We also got bootstrap built Turner, will Turner's father, anotherawesome exisit of character, and then maccus, who is the hammerhead shark man,who just had an awesome looking piece. So I completely understand why this setwas voted on as the best pirates of the Caribbean set. I thinkthere are a couple sets was slightly better designs than this one, but itis a very cool set. It's a very important set and it means alot to me personally. So those are all the dead man's chest sets. Now we can talk about the at world's INSETS. Here we got for atworlds and we got we got, we got that. We got nothing.Literally, there are no sets legos ever...

...made based off at world's end. They're just aren't. I mean, I guess you could technically debate that. The Black Pearl Count does it at world's inset because it all that stuff appearsand at world's end, but for the most part they didn't make any. It's pretty stupid. They didn't make any set space off at world's end. They could have easily made the Chinese ships. They, you know, sail toat world's end. Those are very cool ships and I would have lovedto have seen that in Lego form. But really the thing I would wantthe most, which is also in dead man's chest, is they never madea set based off the flying Dutchman, Davy Jones's ship from the movie thatgoes underwater, such a cool ship design. They never made a flying Dutchman set, which is so sad. That's really sad. To me and consideringthe other ships they've made, one in particular will talk about here towards theend of this episode. I really think they could have made a dope flyingDutchman set and I'm very disappointed that we have never gotten that. Hopefully Legorealizes the air of their ways and they just commit to making like a twohundred and fifty director consumer flying Dutchman set at some point down the line. But as it stands right now, no flying Dutchman set, which is ahumongous missed opportunity. Now we can talk about the pirates of the Caribbean legosets based off on stranger tides, the fourth film in the series. Nowthis film got in total five boxed lego sets, the most of any piratesof the Caribbean movie, and of course this was the film that, youknow, kind of sparked the pirates of the Caribbean line, so that doesmake sense. The first set, for twelve dollars, was the captain's cabin. This was the cheapest boxed pirates of the Caribbean set ever, cheapest wayto ever get Jack Sparrow. Came with two Zombie pirates, which are kindof weird characters in the movie, but decent figures and it had a lotof very cool pieces. It had a nice printed Globe and Nice printed shipsin a bottle. Besides that, the builds were pretty underwhelming and not superexciting and you could get most of this stuff in the Queen Ann's revenge setthat we'll talk about here in just a minute. But it was still anice little small set for the line for twenty. From this line we gotthe Fountain of Youth. Spoiler alert. They actually that finding the Fountain ofYouth and the movie and this set had some great figures. It was thecheapest way to get black beer because the only other came in the one hundredtwenty dollar Queen Anne's revenge, so that was awesome, and had an exclusiveBarbosa figure. You also had Jack Sparrow and I very nice printed map pieceto find the fountain of Youth. The builds of this set are awful. They are so ugly, they are horribly blocky, they are complete facades andyou get a waterfall that is made with these weird like vinyl pieces for somereason, not a good bill. This, I think, is easily the worstbuilds we ever got from a Lego pirates the Caribbean set. It's acool set and it's a cool scene, but I think the builds are veryunderwhelming and it was also not a very good deal. Only one hundred twentyeight pieces for twenty bucks, and not...

...a great one there. For Fiftywe got the London escape, which one person actually said on my instagram thisis their favorite parts of the Caribbean set ever. So more power to youfor liking this set. In my opinion, this is probably the most forgettable piratesof the Caribbean set. Like I kind of forgot this set existed andI literally own this set. So kind of an odd one. It camewith a small pub, tight build and two carriages. One carriage had apretty neat little play feature where you could actually make a kind of catch onfire, and it had redcoat British soldiers like the ones we see in thenormal lego pirate sets. No interesting minifigures, not a very memorable scene from themovie, just really not a great set. It wasn't a bad dealor anything and it definitely goes with other things and it's a it's different fromother lego pirates stuff because it's like you know, a British London old styletown build but for the most part, definitely one of the more forgettable piratesof the Caribbean sets ever made. Now, for eighty dollars from this line wegot White Cap Bay, which was the first set from the Lego piratesof the Caribbean wave that I, like, saved up my money to get. This was an eight dollar set with about eighty eight hundred pieces and itwas a lighthouse build. Now, I have always had this Weird Fascination withlighthouses. I Love Lighthouses. I used to collect little lighthouse models back inthe day and, like I said, I live in North Carolina and thecoast North Carolina is known for their lighthouses. So I love lighthouses and when thisset came out, it was like one of the first like really coollooking lego lighthouse sets and I was like that's an awesome set. I needto get that set. So I saved up my money in two thousand andeleven, I was like an eighth grade and I bought this set day oneand I believe I was one of the first people to review it on Youtubeas well. Such a fantastic set, really great design. I mean seriously, it holds up all a day. Lots of awesome details for kind ofthe castle lighthouse feel really cool play feature as well, because it came witha light brick and the light rick had a magnifying glass in front of itwhich helped kind of project the light even further. That was super, supercool. It also had a nice of blowing up play feature. That blewup the whole thing, but it was still forever fairly easy to reassemble.Awesome, awesome set, and it was the first had to introduce the brandnew mermaid like piece that they're still using today. That used on the aerialminifigure from Disney and some other things. All around great set. That's oneof my personal favorite pirates the Caribbean sets Lego has ever made. And then, of course, the flagship set of the original pirates of the Caribbean wave, literal flagship set of this wave, was the one hundred and twenty dollarQueen Anne's revenge. Now Queen as revenge like black beard. It's black beardship. It's actually a real ship in real life. It probably wasn't quitelike the design in pirates the Caribbean, because this ship was covered in redsales skeletons and had like flamethrowers, which is probably not super realistic in reallife, but it is a real ship. It's a very nice ship, veryintimidating. Over one hundred pieces. Seriously a great set. It camewith black beard, Jack Sparrow. The...

...only set that came with penelope cruises, character from that film Angelica. And a fun little thing is penellby Cruis, the actress, is married to Javy our Bardem, who plays Salazar, who will talk about in the next pirates of the Caribbean set. So kindof a weird little fun tidbit between actors in the pirates of the Caribbean universeand this set here. I want this set. I wish I got this. I didn't have enough money to get it back in the day. Ireally wish I did because, kind of like the Black Pearl, the priceof this set has absolutely skyrocket this thing is worth hundreds and hundreds of dollarsthese days, which is very unfortunate. I really wish I could get myhands on this. And one final thing for the pirates of the Caribbean videogame. They had a polybag promo tie in which was a Voodoo Doll JackSparrow minifigure, kind of random. I didn't even really know this existed untilI started doing research for this week's episode of Briccology. Weird random medifigure. We're not going to talk about that anymore now. Pirates of the Caribbean hadthis pretty decent lot run here in two thousand and eleven and nothing else. They didn't make any more sets for it. It was just done. I thoughtpirates of the Caribbean was ever to come back until we get this fifthpirates of the Caribbean movie six years later in two thousand and seventeen. Butlego went a bit of a different route with the sets for the dead mentell no tales film. Instead of using their budget to make a full linefor dead men tell no tails, they actually just made one direct to consumerset and to brickheads. Talk about the brickheads here real quick. Technically it'snot really considered part of the pirates of the Caribbean line. It's more consideredpart of the brickheads line, but it's still pirates the Caribbean stuff so muchin them nevertheless. The two brickheads, of course, were Jack Sparrow andCaptain Salazar Jack Sparrow. One looks pretty good. The sellers are one lookspretty awful and looks nothing like the character from the actual movie. And I'mpretty sure these brickheads did not sell at all. I always saw these thingson clearance at toys R US and target for like two dollars. I'm prettysure no one bought these brickheads. And this was like the first year thebrickheads are really, you know, coming into form. There were some ofthe earlier Lego brickheads. But the other set, of course, they madethe one set is the silent Mary. Now this is by far the biggestpirates of the Caribbean set ever. It's a direct a consumer set. Itwas two hundred dollars and as over twenty two hundred pieces and it makes keptin Saladsar's ship, the silent Mary from the film. This is an awesomeset. I have this set on display in my room back home. It'sa beautiful design, so, so much detail. It really looks good andit's freaking huge. This thing is massive. Great, great, great set. That came with ghost sharks. It came with all the exclusive mini figures, including Salazar Will Turner Sun and updated version of Jack Sparrow, and ithad a really cool play feature because, like in the movie, this shiplike folds up and eats other ships, and that you could kind of recreatethat with some joints in the middle of this boat. And you also hadlike a sale that could fall over because it's like a rotting ghost ship.Awesome set, awesome set. I love this set and honestly, I dothink it's cool that they decided to make one big set or that the makinga whole wave for people to collect,...

...because I would have been a lotof work. But just getting this one cool set that's, you know, way more detail than a normal set might be, I think was actually apretty cool decision. However, this set really makes me believe that we couldhave gotten a two hundred plus dollar flying Dutchman set with a similar level ofdetail and mini figures in accessories included. So it's kind of pointing to methat they made this big silent Mary and they also made the Black Pearl andQueen Anne's revenge, so like three of the more important ships in the piratesthat Caribbean franchise. Yet we never got the flying Dutchman that I think isprobably the most iconic ship from this franchise besides the Black Pearl. So thatis definitely a bit of a letdown, but doesn't take anything away from howcool the silent Mary set actually is. So that's all. Those are allthe lego pirates of the Caribbean sets. There's not too many overtime. Accordingto brick set there's only fifteen, and some of them a random poly bagsand promotions. So all around, they really did not make too many piratesof the Caribbean sets. I wish they made more, but alas, herewe are. It's still a really great theme. I think there's some ofthe best pirate sets Lego has ever made, some awesome pirate ships and I thinkany lego pirate fan or just like a movie Fan, will love thesesets. They have great designs, great figures in our super unique and Iwould love to see them kind of come back with more modern designs and,of course, you know, make up for the missed opportunities that, likeit has head over the years of trying to make a flying dutchmens. That'sjust what I really want. Hashtag Lego, make a flying Dutchman. Let's getthat Hashtag going, guys. So thank you so much for listening tothis week's episode of brick oology.
