LEGO Hidden Side - Brickology Halloween Special

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

It's spooky season again, and LegoLee is back with another Halloween-themed episode of Brickology! To celebrate the scarier side of LEGO, or should we say hidden, Lee talks about the first wave of the short-lived but (somewhat) beloved, albeit controversial, theme called Hidden Side! Lee expresses what he loves about the original line of LEGO sets, but also the disdain he has for the App-integration features and more in this Halloween Special episode of Brickology!

Good morning, good afternoon, goodevening, whenever, wherever you are listening. Thank you so much for making mea part of your day. My name is Lee Party might know meas Lego Lee or Lego Lee three to nine from facebook, instagram, twitter, Youtube, pagtre on your name it. I'm all over the Internet and thisis the brick Ology podcast, the study of small plastic bricks. Howare you doing today? I sincerely hope you're having an absolutely fantastic day.And this is the third total episode of Brick Ology in the month of Octoberand, honestly, considering that I uploaded, I believe, one episode of brickoology all of September, I think this is a good step in theright direction. October actually got to a great start for me. I didtwo episodes in the first like twelve days and I haven't done one in thepast couple weeks because I have been extremely busy. But you know what Octoberis, as everybody knows and calls it now, spooky season, and lastyear I did a brick ology spooky season special about lego monster fighters and Iwas like, Lee, you got to do it again. You got doan that our special Halloween themed episode of Brick Ology. So this is thebrick oology spooky season spectacular. I am so excited for this episode and ifyou've read the title, you obviously already know what we're talking about. Butbefore we get into this week's topics, of course I'm going to do someshameless plugs, but before that I'm going to kind of just tell you alittle bit about the future of brick ology for the remainder of two thousand andtwenty one. Now, I do have a schedule of every episode I haveplanned for season six of brick oology. We're not going to hit every singletopic on that schedule in the order they are in that schedule, but I'mgoing to get through all of those topics by the point I finish this season. However, there's a couple of extra episodes that I'm going to insert inas well because they're very topical and you know, I kind of thought Imight be done with this season of the time I got to when this isgoing to come out, but you know, it's just not how the cookie crumpled. So we're actually going to have to talk about those particular topics inseason six, which means this is going to be the longest season of brickology ever. It's going to be of what, fifteen episodes, I believe. So that is going to be super, Super Fun. So here's what youhave to look forward to for the rest of two thousand and twenty oneon this show. Next week eternals comes out and Lego actually made a prettysubstantial line of eternal sets. So, kind of like I don't want blackwidow and Shaun Chi, I will be doing an episode about that. NowI don't feel like I can adequately do that episode without having seen the movie. Already have my opening night imax tickets and even though the reviews the movieor concerning me and a little bit concern I might be one of the worstmovies in the mcu, of course I am going night one. I'll formmy own opinion of the movie. I will do a review for the movieon my other podcast. Are you not look forward for all of that? And then as soon as I see the movie, I will quickly rush theeternals episode of Brick Ecology into production. So expect that episode within the nextcouple of weeks. It shouldn't be more than about two weeks from this episode. So look out for the eternals episode. They'll probably be one filler episode sometimein mid November which will probably end up being a star wars episode ora Ninjago episode. Want to get out, you know, a popular topic forthe holiday season and then as we move into December leading up to spiderman no way home. So lots of marvel stuff going on here, butit is very topical. I'm going to do a couple of different spider mantopics. I want to do one about these spider man Lego sets based offthe original Sam Rami trilogy with Toby McGuire, and then I'll do a separate episodeabout Spider Man Lego sets in the mcu, of course, with TomHolland. Obviously there's also the weird like animated spider man stuff, all aweird spider man stuff lego has made up. I will not be talking about thatquite yet. At some point the future I'm sure I will. I'lljust be focusing on the movie spider man stuff before spider man no way homecomes out on December seventeen and then hopefully around Christmas time I will do awinter village episode of brick oology. So there will be a Christmas special inaddition to the spooky season special that we are doing right now. So somefun stuff to look forward to for the last couple of months of two thousandand twenty one on this show. Now, before we get started with today's spectacularepisode, of course, go find your boy online. I'm on Facebook, twitter, instagram, Youtube, Patreon,...

...all you those are under your LegoLee or Lego Lee three, two and nine, not super difficult tofind. I also have a couple of other podcasts. I have one calledare you not right, talking about movies and pop culture and whatnot. Iwill be reviewing eternals on there, so go check that out as well. And I do a podcast with a buddy of mine called the very manly muppetshow, which, shocker, is actually about the muppets, and we dida spooky season special about the muppets haunted mansion over there, and I'm goingto be doing a spooky season special on are you not so just all thespooky season stuff from me this week. Go check out all those podcasts. And speaking of PODCASTS, wherever you are listening, hitting with a follow,if you're listening on spotify or if you're on apple podcasts. Subscribe, Iand consider rating this podcast out of five stars and leaving a written review. That really helps me out and I'd love to hear your feedback. So,all of the announcements out of the way, let's jump in and finally talk aboutthis week's, or this season's, this year's, spooky, season spectacularepisode of Brick Ology, Lego hidden side. So what is hidden side, youmay ask. Well, if you are a Lego fan right now andyou've been a Lego fan just for a couple of years, doesn't have tobe that long, you're probably aware of what hidden side is. The themeis only two years old at this point. It's not like some of my otherclassic lego themes. I talked about something from two thousand and one.You might have no idea what that theme is. This theme is fairly recentand it is an inhouse original lego theme, which I have made a point onbrick oology to try and talk about as many original lego themes as Ican, because while I love stuff like Star Wars, I mean I'm staringat my shelf full of marvel and DC Lego sets right now. In House, a like original stuff is kind of the bread and butter of Lego andsome of their most fun ideas have been spawned from these original themes. Andhidden side is an original theme. Now, if you talked about this ten yearsago, that wouldn't matter. Lego was making original themes, you know, left and right. Two years ago. However, in recent years, youknow, basically it's a kind of the same thing as like Hollywood. You see in Hollywood right now there aren't that many like original properties. Everythingis based off something. That's a remake US something, it's a sequel tosomething. There aren't too many big original ideas and Lego in some ways hascompletely gone the exact same route. Every single theme now, besides the exceptionsof like the evergreen original themes like city and now Ninjago, pretty much everythingelse, I guess friends also might fall into that category. But everything elseis a license theme based off something. And Look, I love that stuffand honestly, if I had to choose, I would choose Lego Star Wars over, you know, like Lego Alpha team. However, I do kindof miss the fun original themes from Lego and they had a dead spot therewhere. They didn't make an original theme for over three years correct me ifI'm wrong, but I believe hid inside, which launched in summer two thousand andnineteen, was the first original lego theme since Winter Two Thousand and sixteen, when we got the first wave of Lego next so nights. So forreal, they really just have not given original themes all that much love.So this theme, love it or hate it, it was kind of excitingfor like classic Lego fans because it's like, oh, finally, like a newlego theme that they have created. Now, unfortunately, some of thenew themes recently, a video to be specific, I fic, have kindof crash and burned, which hopefully doesn't make lego completely straight away from doingany more original stuff. And I kind of have a feeling this theme didn'tdo great either, because there are some weird gimmicks that I'll talk about throughoutthis episode that might have hurt the theme overall. But let's talk a littlebit the specifics of hidden side before we talk about the sets of hidden side. So what is the story here? Surprisingly, actually foreign original lego theme. They didn't give it that much story. Like everybody has a name in hiddenside, but there isn't like a comic or a big TV show oranything. Let there isn't a ton of Lore here. It's a fairly simplepremise. Basically it follows two high schoolers are main two characters who, atleast one of them appears and like every single set besides maybe some polybags, and they are Jack and Parker, and we'll talk about them throughout today's episodeof Brick Ology. And they investigate some paranormal activity and they're small town callednewberry. Now this really has a lot of tropes that it borrows from tonsof other spooky stories. So I think...

SCOOBYDOO comes to mind. Also, this is very much so ghostbusters inspired, and I'll talk more about how alot of things from this theme Mirror Ghostbusters, but also to including some lego stufflike monster fighters. Are definitely borrowing lots of ideas from other themes. So while this was a new original theme, technically speaking from Lego, it doesn'tfeel that original because it's very similar to other themes and other properties thatLego has tackled in the past. Now there's also one very strange thing abouthidden side, and I just mentioned a little bit ago about the gimmicky sideof this theme and the Weird thing here is that there's an APP that accompaniedthe release of this theme, and when I say APP I mean an APPFord iphone or IPAD. Basically, the hidden side APP had this weird interactiveaugmented reality thing where it had like a camera. Obviously your phone has acamera and you could scan pieces from the Lego sets and it would make likethese ghosts come to life on your phone. By mean completely honest, I thinklike phone augmented reality is funny on like snapchat filters, but for themost part it's very trivial and I think it's kind of stupid and I don'tthink it worked very well here. And lego did this again with video, which has, you know, absolutely bombed recently. So I don't know ifthe augmented reality way is good for Lego and personally I actually have some fairlyheated opinions about this. It also kind of spawns from the Lego Mario sets. Now the Mario sets are selling well, but it's awesome Mario, so it'snot really a big surprise that people are excited about Super Mario stuff. But these original themes have kind of crashed and burned with this, you know, APP integration in with Lego. And the reason I'm not super fond ofLego and APP kind of going together is because I've always thought as Lego aslike an alternative to video games, an alternative to doing something on a screen, and there's so many video games, so many phone games and obviously theInternet these days that I feel like Lego is a great way, especially foryoung kids who are just growing up with so much exposure to technology, tokind of escape from that. So now we have these lego themes that, basically, to gain the full experience of the theme, you need to havelike an iphone or an ipad with a camera, or else you won't beable to understand it. And, like the Mario sets, don't even havepaper instructions anymore than instructions are literally on a phone. And like, Ihate that. I really think it's dumb. I think it kind of goes againstwhat I think Lego should stand for. And I am not a fan ofAPP integration in with Lego sets. Not like you want to have anAPP that has mintional information and stuff. That's fine, I don't really careabout that sort of thing, but like the whole crux of this theme withthis theme. It was marketed on the whole augmented reality thing and I thinkit was a huge misfire. Now I kind of have a feeling that Legowas going to notice it was a missfire with this theme and especially with video, and someday I'll do an episode on video so I can stick you latejust how awful that particular theme is. But yeah, I just don't thinkthe whole augmented reality thing is good for the brand. And even the Mariosets, which are better and had been more successful, I wish they hadthe classic, you know, paper Lego instructions and not just the APP basestuff. So not a big fan of the APP thing, but it isa crucial element of this line, so I will be mentioning it for everysingle set here. Another weird thing about hidden side is the boxes. Now, normally I don't really talk that much about the boxes. I might describethe box art a little bit, but like, this is obviously an audiopodcast and it's kind of hard to describe exactly how a box looks. Nowlego has been doing interesting things with their boxes here lately. They've made alltheir eighteen plus lego sets have the same kind of box design, which I'mnot a big fan that, you know, uniformity of it, but whatever, they still look decent. They had that one wonder woman set where thefront of the box which is like a big blown up picture of wonder womanand Cheetah and you had no idea was actually in the set. So legohas been doing some things with their boxes lately, but nothing quite like thistheme. Hidden side has probably the most experimental box art in Lego history, where in the front of the boxes for this theme don't show the set. It's artwork. It's literally just like artwork...

...of the set with all these addedghosts and like it does have the scene somewhere in there, but it's indistinguishablynot Lego, like you don't under you can't like understand that it is Legoin the artwork for the box and the kind of look like the you know, artwork you might see like on the side of a Lego box or onthe website or Lego shop at home page, or maybe something you might see islike a poster that comes with a set, or it could be likea board game. I feel like Board Games a lot of times have thesekind of like more action e. vague looking covers and the back of thebox shows off like actually what's inside. That's kind of what it reminds meof. But these are Lego sets and the front of the box doesn't reallyshow the LEGO set. That is very bizarre, in my opinion, andI think that's probably one of the reasons that this theme didn't do super wellon show, just because kids walk into these stores and like, obviously Iknew what the sets are because I've follow Lego leaks on Instagram, like Iknow what the heck is going on with this company. But like a kidwho doesn't follow this kind of stuff online, if they go into a target andthey saw on these sets, they'd probably just go right by it becausenothing about it makes any sense based off the box artwork. It is very, very strange and, in my opinion, a very poor decision on legos part. And I also have seen pictures of stores literally flipping the boxes aroundbecause the back of the box does show off the set like a normal legobox would, so that is very interesting to me. So lots of weirdthings already kind of going against this theme, which is odd to say the least. But of course let's now jump in and talk about the sets. Now there are over thirty hidden side sets and because I've been struggling to getthese podcasts out anyways and I'm a little bit pressed for a time and Ihave a job now and all these things, I'm not going to cover every singlehidden side set here today. I'm only going to be covering the firstwave of hidden side, which is the biggest wave and probably the best waveof the theme from Summer Two Thousand and nineteen. They did make three separatewaves of this theme. There's one in winter two thousand and twenty and thenin one last year and summer of two thousand and twenty as well. Iwill cover those hidden side sets eventually, maybe next October for kind of asequel episode to that. Not sure when that will be, but today's episodeis just going to be summer two thousand and nineteen for Lego hidden side.So let's jump in and talk about those sets. So lego hidden side droppedin summer two thousand and nineteen, specifically August, first summer two thousand andnineteen, and there actually was a good bit of hight behind this theme becauseit was a new, original inhouse lego theme and I remember getting my firsthidden side set, I believe, at Brick Fair Virginia that year, whichis actually the last brick fair that I went to because I hadn't been tothe past couple of ones because they actually have been canceled. But let's talkabout that set, the smallest set from this line in particular, which wasJEB's Ghost Leb. This was a twenty dollar set with one hundred and seventyfour pieces. Now a little bit odd to me that the smallest set fromthis line was twenty bucks. Normally when they do a theme like this, the smallest set is like seven to ten, to maybe like one Thousan, threeenand fifteen at the most. Seems kind of strange to me that therewasn't a smaller set than this. Now they're technically we're a couple of smallersets, but they weren't available for sale. They were promotional box sets, sothose don't really count. As it stands, the main line smallest sethere is this Twenty Dollar Jab's ghost lab. I think they kind of missed opportunityto make maybe like a thirteen dollar set that was easier to get peopleinto this theme as for this set of particular the figures included here. Thefirst one here is Jack, who had at the time a brand new hoodhat combination piece that looked very cool. It was a red cap and healso had a red jacket that went over the calf, but his hood wasa white piece, so he's wearing a white hoodie with a red jacket overit, and there are variations on this character that will talk about throughout theepisode. He also had a printed cell phone piece that showed a ghost onit, which was pretty cool, and he also included Spencer the ghost dog. Know this was a brand new mold for this theme, dual molded inclear, transparent plastic and white, and it basically looked like a dog withlike a blanket over it, and I love it. It's a great pieceand not hard to find because I believe...

...he comes in every single set inthis line. Spencer the Ghost dog is a very easy piece to acquire, but I'm not complaining because it's a very adorable little lego Dago. Moving onfrom Jack and Spencer, we also had Professor Jab, the titular character ofthis set. She kind of gives off a mad scientist type VIBE has thesecrazy goggles on, this lavender hair piece that is all spiked up gives offyou know, that typical like Dr Frankenstein as fibe, this time just afemale character in particular. Also included here is the character of Douglas Elton, who is the possessed ghost figure in this set. So one thing that's consistentthrough all of these sets is there's always some kind of figure that's not themain character that is being possessed by a ghost, and the way they dothis is they actually just start up give you an additional headpiece. The headpiecesfor the ghosts are always kind of a transparent neon green color, and thenthey had that kind of like really light lime green color for their hair, not really transparent, but it still looked very murky and cool. I believethat color was like introduced with the Ninjago sets from two thousand and fifteen.Overall, very very cool looking ghostly figures that I do quite enjoy. Sothose are the ghost figures of this theme and I'll talk about every single differenthaunted character throughout this entire wave. But moving on to the build of thisset in particular, it's just a facade of a lab it's got some tools, control panels, some wires, some cords, some pumps, some electricitythings like you might see from Frankenstein. Again, definitely a Frankenstein's monster kindof vibe to this lab. But the playability was very weak. I wroteis building this set and being like man, there aren't really like any fun playfeatures here. It's just kind of like in a random assortment of things, but there's nothing crazy that you can actually do. I was a littlebit underwhelmed what the play value here, but it does look decent on displayand has some cool pieces. And then finally there's like this generator thing that'sattached this main light transformation feature that really doesn't even actually have a playability feature, and this generator thing has a spinning wheel with four different colors. Thisis where the APP integration comes into play with this set. Essentially you canspin between these different colors scanned the colors in the APP, and the differentcolors will make different things appear. It's very stupid and sometimes it kind ofgets in the way of the look of these sets and I will be talkingabout that throughout this episode. But moving on from the smallest set, let'stalk about the next smallest set here, which was a three dollar set withthree hundred and ten pieces, called the wrecked shrimp boat. This set includedthe figures here of Jack. Yet again, this one does not have the jacketprint, so it's just the White Hoodie version of Jack, and ofcourse Spencer is included as well. You also get our first appearance of theother main character from hidden side, and that is Parker. She is agirl who has purple hair wears a yellow beanie with a nice hair hat combinationpiece. She has kind of like a biker jacket vest and some stitched upjeans and she has a Jane Jackets. That's kind of her variation on thefigure throughout this line. As for the exclusive characters included with this set,you get Captain Jonas and Jonas Junior. Captain Jonas is our shrimp boat captain. He has a typical kind of sailors wet suit with that kind of funnylooking banana is shaped hat. I really love the look of this minifigure. He looks great and he is also the one that can become a ghost, and this ghost not only has the ghosts headpiece but also has a back attachmentwith some straight up tentacles. That looks super weird and Super Spooky, butI really do enjoy it. And also you get Jonas junior here. Hewas wearing overalls. One of them is ripped, which is a fun littledetail. He also has a beanie and a very shocked expression. Also includedhere not really a figure, but it is a creature, and that isan albino ghost alligator. It's an alligator in Tan, completely exclusive to thisset and a very, very cool figure to get, so I really enjoyedthe inclusion of that. They're so honestly a great selection of figures and creatureswith this set. But do the build hold up? The first build isa side build of a swamp. Obviously shrimp boat kind of gives off aLouisiana vibe and one of the next sets,...

...will talk about here in a fewmoments, is definitely going to give you a Louisiana vibe. And thisset definitely has kind of a swamp esthetic going on, which I do reallyenjoy. Leg It doesn't tackle swamp stuff all too often, so I thinkit's cool to get that here. The only other swamp stuff I can thinkof from Lego is the like swamp police sets they did back in the midtwo thousand and tens. Those were also pretty cool. But the side buildhere is a creepy swamp area build and there's also a feature here where partof a rock can turn into a monster with a face, and that's goingto be a recurring theme throughout this episode, is inanimate objects becoming a live ghostmonsters. I guess that's kind of like the WHO hidden side of thistheme. But of course the main build here is the shrimp boat and whilethe shrimp boat does not become a monster, it's actually a very nice design.First off, I don't know if Legos ever made a shrimp but beforeso, anybody just has like a Lego city kind of deal. I thinkthis would be a pretty cool thing to get and I really like the lookof this build. It is small, but it's compact, has a lotof detail and it has a little storage crate for some small shrimp which isused like you know, red teeth pieces, but it's a pretty decent representation ofa shrimp. It's also named Maria specifically, which is a sticker onthe boat. The main kind of like hole section looks very good. Theengine section at the back does have a dumb spinning feature with some awkward colorsthat integrates with the APP. Of course that is not my favorite thing inthe world. But besides that, a very cool shrimp boat and the shrimpboat had a pretty dope playability function. You can literally just break the wholething in half. You could split it in half and take those two piecesand connect them to the aforementioned side swamp build and that makes the wrecked shrimpboat display. Now I think it looks better not wrecked, but I dothink this is a very cool playability function and adds some life to this set. So overall, great set for thirty it packs a lot of punch forthe value. Really really good set and one of my personal favorite hidden sidesets that I got. Now I will say I own the twenty dollar set. I had this set and there's one more set that I have and thenI have a few sets from your too. But for the most part I didn'tget too invested in this theme and I'm kind of glad I didn't,because some of the sets I don't think are really worth the money and I'mdefinitely glad I spent my money elsewhere. Just saved my money from these sets. So some of my thoughts here are just based off of the pictures inthe reviews I've seen for these sets. But plenty of these sets I don'tactually own myself. Moving on to a set I don't own myself, thatis the other set from this line at thirty dollars, with a little bitmore pieces. Three hundred and fifty five, thirty five to be exact, isthe graveyard mystery. This set here includes the figures of Jack with theHoodie on, and you also get Parker here without the jacket, and youget Spencer, of course, and then the exclusive civilian type character included withthis set here is Mr Branson, who has a crazy ghost head and hairpiece. Very interesting figure, really crazy looking hairpiece that I do quite enjoy. As for the build of this set, shocker. It's a graveyard, whichLego has done graveyards before, especially in the Harry Potter line for that scenefrom the goblet of fire, which I talked about on my goblet of fireepisode of Brick Ology last season. The graveyard here it has a gate atthe front using this typical kind of spooky lego gate pieces that can open upthere is one gray with an angel on top that uses a gray version ofthe quote unquote, care are in hair piece from Lego. See a mapthat people love to make fun of. Very interesting and cool inclusion here, definitely reminiscent of the lego Harry Potter graveyard set, and that one has aspinning thing on the bottom. That's odd. Weird colors that completely take you outof the set. For the APP integration, not a fan of that. But there is a middle grave that has a playability function with a skeletonhidden inside, and there's a small grave next to that one which can slideopen to reveal another different tile piece that you can scan. The APP EYSare probably noticing. I don't like the APP integration, obviously, and somany of the playability functions in these hiddenside sets rely on the APP stuff. They just kind of right off a lot...

...of the play features and a lotof the play feature to just straight up the APP things, which is notgood playbillard to be and in fact it actually makes some of the sets lookworse. So I'm not a big fan of a lot of what's happening withthe playability in these hidden side sets. Definitely not my favorite deal. Now, next to these graves there's also a small little grave keepers house with someaccessories included, and there is a tree on top of that and the treecan become haunted. It's whatever. It's not great, it doesn't look greatand overall, look, Legg has done this graveyard concept before and I thinkthey had done it better in other sets like Harry Potter or even monster fighters. And overall, I think this is kind of a lame set and oneof the most forgettable sets from the first wave of hidden side. But itmight not be the worst set, because in some waysn't the worst set isthe next set, and that is El fuegoes stunt truck. This was aforty hidden side set with four hundred and twenty eight pieces. The figures includedhere are Jack with the White Hoodie and Spencer. Yet again, you alsoget El Fuego, more on this character throughout the episode, who basically,Al Fuego is, you know, evil kinevil of this universe. He isa daredevil stunt man, and you also get Dwayne and Joey here. Dwayneand Joey are bikers who are possessed. Is also is our first appearance ofthe ghostly beard piece and I do like these figures. I love the BikerGang Lego esthetic and I think they look pretty cool with their ghost pieces aswell. So I like the figures in this set. The builds here areamazing. The first side build is obviously you get bikers, so you geta motorcycle and it's a very like, you know, high handle bar lookingmotorcycle and it is a little bit oversized, but it does hold two figures effectivelyand it's not comically big, which is nice because obviously I've complained alot of times on this podcast about Lego making these metorcycles that are just absolutelyridiculously huge. This is not one of them, so I do appreciate thataspect about this set in particular. However, I still don't think it's a greatlooking build. And the build that is comically oversize is the next build, and that is Elfigo stunt truck. Now, look, this turn doesn'tlook terrible. It's not like an ugly design. Look, it's a prettydecent looking kind of pickup truck esque design with some good red color schemes, but it just kind of reminds me of stuff I've talked about in Dino andagents and other lego themes. It's a boring oversized truck. It has someghostbuster ask like ghost traps and lasers at the back, which is interesting enough, but for the most part nothing about this build stands out to me.It's not really bad per se, I just think it's kind of a dumband dull concept for a Lego set. So not one of my favorite setsfrom this line. But luckily things get better from here. The next sethere has maybe my favorite Lego set name of all time. Actually know it'snumber two. The best name for Lego said ever is G Rilla Grad goesbananas from Lego DC superheroes. But this is my second favorite Lego set name. It is shrimp shack attack. I love it. It's it rhymes, has the word shrimp in it. What is not to adore about the nameof this set and what's not to a door about this set? Really, this was a fifty dollar set with five hundred and seventy nine pieces, andinclude the figures here of Jack with the Hoodie. You get Parker with thefirst appearance of her Gene Jack Out. Of course, you also get spencerthe ghost dog, as well the exclusive characters here. One is Ronnie, who has a great pizza shirt reference on his torso print to Lego island. That is a fantastic minifigure included here. You also get sally, who isa possessed waitress for this set, and of course you also get a chef. or there is a waitress, and that chef here is chef Enzo, and when he becomes a ghost they use the Garma don piece from Ninjago. That makes a double torso she has four arms. They use that piece forhim and it's glorious. I just absolutely love the way this figure looks.Might be my personal favorite of all the ghostly characters from hidden side. Thatis a brilliant looking minifigure. As for the builds of this set, youcan decide build of a small blue car...

...for Jack and it's fine. It'sa fine build. It's not ugly or anything like it. It serves itspurpose pretty well, but overall it's nothing to write hum about. The mainbuilt here, of course, is the shrimp shack, which is one largebill but has kind of a couple of sections. You get a sign offto the side that says diner on it and it also has this big brickbuilt shrimp that has some really fun building techniques, including using the whip pieceskind of the weird little like tentacles on the front of a shrimp's face andof course you can rearrange some things and it becomes spooky and haunted. Also, next to it the ground with a trash can is can come up witha mouth as well. So that is all pretty fun. As for themain restaurant itself, it's kind of small but it packs a lot of detailinto a fairly small area. There's a detail kitchen which of course has somefeatures throughout the integrate with the APP which is super annoying, but it hasthat kind of icon or checkered tile floor you'd expect from a diner and overallit looks pretty cool. Now the whole thing does have kind of a walkup window vibe and there's outdoor seating, but the outdoor seating is on topof the shack. Kind of weird a new mentor restaurant where there's like astaircase from outdoor seating. I don't know, very strange. Hard to explain howit's laid out, but I'm guessing it's just the most safe and, like space, least effective way Lego was able to build this set. Overall, and the top it's kind of whatever. I don't really think that'sthe best part of the set, but overall, such a fun, coolbuild and I regret not getting the set. I just ride on the set forfive minutes and I don't even own it. I really this is theone set from this line where I was like that set wasn't that expensive andI neglected to ever purchase it. So I definitely wish I had picked upthis set at some point in time. And you guys love this set tobecause it was voted the best lego hidden side set. Honestly, kind ofa shock to me, like I knew this set was popular, I wasnot expecting it to win the voting contest, but it did. So congratulations tothe shrimp shack attack on being voted the best lego hidden side set bybrick oology fans. Now the next set from this line is the one otherset that I own from this wave of hidden side and that is the Paranormal intercept bus. This was a sixtyllar set with six hundred and eighty ninepieces. It include the figures here of Jack and his red jacket. Youalso get Parker and her jene jacket, of course, you get Spencer theGhost Dog, you get professor jb yet again, and then the exclusive charactershere are bill and Nana, who are construction workers who, of course, both have ghostly looking faces and hair pieces and even the ghost beard as wellfor the character of Bill. Over all, pretty great figures selection. Now thereis a couple of construction based side builds here, including some cones andthat fun stuff. But there's also one thing that is commonly seen on aconstruction site that Lego has made maybe like one or two times in the past, and it's not a very typical thing, and a Lego set. There's afreaking Porta potty in this set and it's honestly like a pretty effective andaccurate design. Like it looks like a Porta Potty, it has all thedetails you would want from a Porta Potty, but this is also hidden side,so this is a haunted Porta potty. So it actually has some legs, which is fun. It has some hidden eyeball pieces and some teeth, all fun. And then there's a disc shooter on the inside that shoots offBrown disc pieces. Yes, the PORTA potty shoots Brown disk pieces. I'mgoing to let your imagination fill in the blanks as what that is representing, because I think everybody has the same thought and I can't really believe Lego gotaway with some Porta potty humor, if you will, and this set.As for the main build of the set, here it is the bus itself. This is a school bus, a pretty large, honestly, about toscale with a Lego figure school bus in the correct color. That is oftentimescalled school bus orange. Lego fans, classic bionicle Fans Love to call itkey Tongoo orange because it appeared with the Kreeke Tonggoo bionicle set back in theday originally. But it's an accurate color for a school bus, because Ithink Lego made a school bus for Lego city once, but it was justa normal yellow and that ain't going to...

...cut it and needs to be thiskind of medium yellow light orange color and it looks very, very good. And of course this school bus is modified for fighting ghosts, and this iswhere I think the biggest ecto one comparison comes between this theme and ghostbusters thisfeels like the ECTO, one of hidden side. It's a vehicle you seeall the time, like a hearse and ghostbusters, or at the believe theoriginal ghostbusters, supposed to be an ambulance and it's actually a hearse for thenew ghostbusters. This is a school bus that these teenagers have modified entered theirmobile command center, headquarters of fighting ghosts, and overall it looks pretty cool. It's got some big rims ready to battle. It's got some gunned atthe front, some spikes, tons and tones of lights, it has thedriver's seat with some barred doors and there's actually tons of space on the insideto fit mini figures, which is great. The top section also has a biglaser cannon thing for hunting ghosts. And guess what, it also hasa dumb rotating tile feature for the APP. I'm just not even complain about thatanymore. It looks terrible, but the middle section, here the doorsdo fold down, there's some more storage, more places to put mini figures, more lasers and there is a ladder to the roof as well, andthe roof, as you move towards the back section, has a radar dish, which is very, very cool. Now the roof can't be removed. However, the back door opens and you can slide out the entire back halfof the interior of this bus, and this is kind of like a smalllab with tons of space for mini figures. There's computers and all these things forscientific experiments and whatnot, and one of the computers has a reference toLego bionicle. The original bionicle has like a Tahoo looking mask on it.Oh my gosh, the fact that legos everything bionicle in this set borious.I absolutely love that. So overall, super unique, Super Fun set anddefinitely the best hidden side set that I own personally. Now, I didget this set for half off at Walmart. That's the reason I bought this.Sad particular, I wish I had found the shrimp shack attack set forhalf off as well. So I wasn't going to buy this set at listprice, but honestly, let's price is still a pretty good value and Ithink this set is brilliant regardless. So over all, great set across theboard. We're dotting close to the end here. This is the pen ultimateset of the hidden sideline. This is an eighty dollar set with six hundredand ninety eight pieces. I find it very interesting it has only, whatnine more pieces than the last set, but a twenty dollar jump in price. So this is actually the worst price to part ratio of any set fromthis first way of hidden side, and this is the ghost train express. This to here include the figures of Jack with his red jacket. You alsoget Parker with her gene jacket and you get Spencer, the ghost dog.You also get professor JB here as well. So a lot of repeat characters. But then, like every other set, you get some exclusive characters. Youget Paul, who is a random civilian with some goofy looking glasses, with a very scared expression and kind of a funny hairpiece, and then youalso get chuck and Mrs Santos, who are the people running this train, and miss as Santa has a crazy hair piece that their guy has a beardand hair and overall they look very cool, but probably some of the more underwhelminglooking ghost figures. They're just a little bit more boring, but theyare still fairly decent additions here. As for the build of this set,it's a small train station and a very, very simple bill, but there's nothingreally for me to write hum about until there are hidden claws, hiddeneyes forward again. So yet again and inanimate object becomes alive in one ofthese hidden side sets. But not much else to talk about there. Thetrain here. First off you get a few pieces of Lego train track, but not a full lego train track, which makes it a little bit disappointingin my opinion, and you also get the train itself. Now the trainhere, I don't really like it, and I'll talk about why right now. There's three different cars. There's the bat car, which is kind oflike the caboose, but honestly it looks like a normal storage car for atrain and it's big and it's square and it's ugly. It does hold aghost laser trap gun thing cool, but that's all there is to it.Nothing else there. The middle car is...

...even smaller and it has little chamberto hold the Chuck Ghost figure, so you can do some experiments on himwith Professor Jb, I guess. And of course there's a spinning APP featurethat goes with the AB B Blah Blah. Not Great. So overall, thetwo back cars are there whatever, but you know what, you don'tget a train set for the smaller cars. You get it for the main engineand I'm not going to lie, thiss main engine is ugly. Itis just square. It's so, so square and it is not my favoritelooking train. Definitely an underwhelming looking design. I guess it's kind of a moremodern looking train. I just don't think it looks all that great. It's a very ugly looking train if you ask me. But of course thetrain is still haunted. So when you moved this thing on the train tracks, the front section moves up and down with an opening mouth feature, whichLego has done that feature on a number of sets recently, so it's kindof getting repetitive. But there also is a feature to have these surprised wingsappear from the side of the train. That feature is pretty cool and gettingthe wings and that green piece, it's like the Batman wing piece from themid two thousands. That was pretty cool. So overall, not a great setin my opinion. Over priced. I wish it had a bigger traintrack. I think the train, all the cars just look pretty underwhelming andmy opinion, I am not a big fan of this ghost train set andI think comparing it to the ghost train from monster fighters. There's just nocontest. That was a great set for monster fighters and a very medium averageset from hidden side. However, there is one more set from this firstwave of hidden side that can possibly redeem this wave, and that is byfar the biggest set of this theme. It is newbury haunted high school. This was a one hundred and thirty dollars set. That's a big set fora brand new unknown lego theme, and it had one four hundred and seventyfour pieces. So this is a big, big LEGO set. It include thefigures here of Jack with his red jacket, parker no jacket, spenserthe ghost dog, of course. You also get Douglas Elton again, andthis is the time I realized that Douglas is also El Fuego. They're thesame person. They're the exact same person. El Flego is just his stunt doublelook alike, you know, alter ego. Very Weird. You alsoget a normal student here named Paula. You also get Wade, who isa short leg student. Not sure where there's a short leg guy in thehigh school. Maybe just hasn't had his puberty Croasper yet, but he doesturn into a winged ghost, you get Mr Clark, who is a teacherthat also becomes a winged ghost, and finally you get principal Rose David's,now Jack David's, our main character. I didn't mention their last names becausethey're super boring, but this is Jack's mother and she is the principle ofthe high school and, shocker, she also can become a ghost in thisset. As for the build of this set, it's a giant high schoolfacade. Not Surprising at all. It's a dollhouse style Lego high school andlook, leg it doesn't make high schools very much. They made some withthe friends line and they made that DC superhero girls line, but one thoseare obviously gender specific sets for young girls. So for a theme that's not targeteda young girls and, you know, skewsed more towards young boys, thisis really like the first big Lego high school set they have made, and I think that's very cool because it's very relatable to pretty much everybody whobuilds Lego is we all go to school at some point, so it's coolgetting something like this, especially for your Lego City, and I think whatjust a few modifications this would look like a school and your Lego city andit wouldn't feel like a haunted high school. But of course we will talk aboutthose haunted play features throughout the rest of this episode. Now it's mostlyin dark red, which makes sense. Kind of gives off a brick vibe. I mean, my high school was made of brick. I'm willing tobet your high school was probably Awsome, made of some brick to some extent, and it looks very old. It's definitely kind of got like a Gothicvibe and it seems a little bit dilapidated, which is one of the things thatI would change if I work to modify this set. But that addsto the haunted aspects of the story here. Now you flip it around the inside. There are two levels and the interiors fine. It's decent. It'snot huge. I don't love it, it is perfectly fine. There isa classroom on the top floor that looks okay. has some displays, hertrophies, has some seats, a Whiteboard,...

...this creepy painting of some girl whohas this haunted teddy bear. Not much else to talk about there. The bottom floor has one a bathroom, so that's the second bathroom from thiswave. There's also a library and then a cafeteria, so it does reallycheck off all the essentials you would want from a high school. And then, of course, the whole day thing is haunted. So the clock attop can of course one clock makes a ton sense half for a high school, for like, you know, the alarm, but you turn the clockand it reveals some eyeballs. There's also some claws that come up from theside pillars of the high school and the whole front entrance. You can kindof move these two pieces to the side and it reveals teeth and a mouth. So the entire thing becomes a big living, very creepy high school, which is very fun for playabilities Sake and overall, a very cool set.No, look, I was never going to drop a hundred and thirty buckson a hoodside set. I have trouble dropping a hundred thirty bucks on anyLEGO set. I mean that is a very large sum of money and foran in house Lego theme it was way too much and I was never goingto spend that much money on that set. But I do think it's a verycool set and if I were to find it at Walmart for half off. I would definitely copy it as soon as possible. And that is itfor hidden side wave one. I'm really glad I decided to split up thistheme into multiple card parts. I guess this episode is almost an hour long. I am losing my voice and I don't think I could have kept goingefficiently to talk about another like fifteen lego hidden side set. But that isit for the first year of Lego hidden side and for this year's brick Ologyspook tacular, spooky season Halloween special episode. Thank you all so much for listening. I hope you have an absolutely fantastic halloween. I love this holiday. I love spooky season stuff. All very, very cool and seriously, thank you all so much for listening. Have a great rest of your day, week, month, year and holiday, whatever it is for you whenever you'relistening. Chow, peace out, gut and tg bye, bye,God bless see you later.
